has anyone done this swap? I think it would be a better way to go on my project car than a WRX swap or 2.5L swap (I already have an RS anyways). Since the model years could be the same (93 and 93), would the wiring be pretty simple? Could this mostly be a plug and chug sort of operation, with the exception of fuel pumps and certain peripherals that you always have to do? It just seems like I could buy an old Legacy turbo that has body damage for practically nothing and do the swap relatively easy. Also, will the 5MT from the Impreza line up w/ the motor? Thanks

What you would have to do is source the wiring diagrams and ecu pinouts for both models and match them up to see what is different. The swap has been done by Scoobyslack1, however he paid a local Subaru mechanic to do the swap and wiring. Aside from the wiring, everything would bolt right in from the crossmember to the tranny.
Just so you know, the Legacy turbo's are very hard to come by. If you find one, count your blessings. -Jon |

I know that it has been done into a 95 Impreza by primitive racing. Paul Eklund is the driver and they had an article on this car in Sport compact CAr about about a year and a half ago. It has been done.

Pauls car was managed by the Tec-II if I remember correctly. That drastically reduces wiring headaches.

I just did this swap to my 95 impreza. I had to swap out the wiring b/c i went from OBD2 to OBD1. Just glancing at the 1992 legacy service manual in front of me I can see that the wiring pinouts are different from N/A to turbo. A 93 impreza wont be much different. Unfortunately, it looks to me like you would need to swap the wiring as well.
