Default New Vendor: SpeedMonkee Performance - SMP

Hello NASIOC members.

Just like to introduce ourselves as the new kid on the block for new alternative Subaru/WRX parts. We offer the same big name vendors too: IHI Turbo, Cobb, & Perrin - to name a few. But we also offer our own innovative products as well:

For starters, we'd like to present our new SMP WRX heatshield for 02-04 MY.
Made of thick 16 ga Stainless Steel. Each part is laser cut and formed to precision so that you will have a flawless - clang free installation in your car. Bolts in with matching supplied stainless hardware for that extra bling factor. These heatshields will protect your engine and IC intake from turbo heat! Our tests have shown at 15-35% drop in temps because of the shielding - which means better protection and performance for your car.
PROTECT your Top Mount intercooler from turbo heat!

$75 in stock and ready to ship.

Also, we'd like to introduce our newest edition to the NASIOC community: SMP Race Radiators. Professionally designed and engineered as a drop in replacement to the stock radiator. Reuses original stock fans. 8.9lbs all aluminum construction made of the best cores the industry has to offer. All welds are hand done and inspected to perfection. Thick single row 38.1mm core will increase cooling efficiency by 40% over the stock version (per manufacturer). Production runs are done in house and take 2 weeks. Next batch is due next week. Contact me for availability as we are in the process of building stock. Please bear with us while we try to catch up with demand!

$475

Does your heatshield work on top of the regular stock heatshield as well? or do you have to choose one or the other?

Thanks

looks like a nice piece..

Safir, you have a PM

Mizar: Thanks for the compliment. The stock shield is removed. The market for our shield is mostly for people who have replaced their downpipes and installed an aftermarket monster down there. This shield will cover almost any DP you could squeeze down there - that doesn't deviate from the initial stock position.

thanks,

Jeremy

Default Heat Shield

You should still see benefit from a heatshield if you still have a FMIC. Turbo heat will rise and fill your engine compartment. It will reduce stress/heat on your electrical and cooling hoses - and possibly reduce the heat wear on those hoses from prematurely cracking over time.

One thing about a high performance engine. Heat in unwanted places is NOT a GOOD THING! (insert Martha Stewart jokes here)

ok. My .02.

It looks like that heat shield covers the compressor side in the same compartment as the exhaust section. Is this bad, in the sense that it raises temp exposure to the compressor portion?

Is the shield only a plate blocking the side (IC) and top or does it extend around and make more of a closed-in box for the turbo?

Thanks,
Evan

EDIT: I took a look at the pic on the web page and it appears that the compressor portion is left outside the heat shield. This seems good to me!

Other question: does the mounting bolt/washer go through the extra hole (relative to stock) on the IC mounting bracket above the turbo?

Default Shield

Makes somewhat of a box - but not completely. Covers top and 2 sides. Boxing it in fully doesn't allow for full air flow from the stock/aftermarket hood to circulate & cool shield/components.

Thanks,
Evan

Yes it does mount to a stock location. uses a 6mm Allen bolt with washer - both stainless of course and included.

Would this heat shield get in the way of a bigger after market TMIC? It seems to bolt on to the second hole, which I think some TMIC bolts on to...

Default mount

It bolts into the second hole. It has been fitted onto a car with the TXS Hyperflow TMIC. You just need to supply your own bolt to make it fit (needs to be longer than what we can provide with our kit)

Note on the pic. he dropped his IC so he bent the IC mount tab - why it doesn't fit exactly flush. Its not the heatshield! Just wanted to clarify.

Default Chimney shields

Dookiebob - you stole my thunder.

Just kidding. Yes folks the long awaited chimney version is being finalized this Sunday (we hope!). He is committing to get it done for me and we will shortly have the prototype with pics in my car.
If everything is ok and ( of course we get positive feedback from you guys), we'll go into production.

We will let you know. Sorry for the delays. I know, bad excuse, but these guys are tearing apart a race car that had issues this week - and time is at a premium.

THanks,

Jeremy

Default GC8 rad is in the works

Hey guys,

Good news for RS guys. The GC8 race radiator is in the works. We need 15 to 20 people to get this off the ground for the first production run.

Also, anyone willing to volunteer a radiator for a week, drop me a line. We will need one for fitting and modeling.

As usual, the new GC8 version will be made of Ron Davis Racing tanks and cores - they are second to none! T6-6061 all aluminum construction and hand made in the USA.

Pricing will be about $475 to $500

I had to remove my stock heatshield with my TurboXS tback... have you tried putting the heatshield on an STi? Does it bolt the same way as a WRX?

Default STI

We haven't had a customer with an STI to bolt it on. However, as long as the STI uses the same stock bracket, it should fit.
The Hyperflow TXS IC is bigger than the STI iC, so, I don't see any fitment issues otherwise.
