This is a picture I found of a 97 OBS wagon. Looks just like the engine of my 97 L wagon except my L doesn't have this part:
So what is that part, and why does my L not have it? Last edited by Mapplex; 08-03-2003 at 01:20 PM. |

Possibly an emissions component. Althought not totally visible it looks like the charcoal canister.

Thanks for answering my question!
So on the L's it seems the evap canister is a black box on the right rear underside. I guess they moved it to the engine bay on the OBS? |

I think it was some time in the 97 model year when the evaporator canister was moved to the back of the car... Not sure exactly.
What model L do you have? |

It was probably moved to help with OBDII compliance.

Those cars with charcoal canister in the back have OBDII "enhanced evap. emission diagnostics" implemented (codes P04xx). With a round canister, you don't get a trouble code because of a loose gas cap.
