Unhappy Dealer did not change filter @ 3000

I brought my 04wrx in for my second oil/filter change at 6000miles.
i had planned on having the first two done at the dealer then start doing them myself, I've already bought a case of oem filters & Mobil synth to start doing them at 9000 and beyond.
So, I asked if I could watch the change this time to get familiar with the procedure, and when the mechanic removed the lower plastic thing even I could tell that it was the original filter still on (blue filter with paint mark on it).
Both the mechanic and service guy said they would be upset too if it were their car, and to call in Monday when the manager will be there.
My questions:
1)What should I say/ask for from the manager?
2)Should I delay my planned mods, (uppipe, turboback exhaust and I/C hoses), planned on doing them at end of month?
3)My biggest concern is the engine, i've read here people changing their oil very early, should i be worried about damage, however minute, i'm planning on keeping this car indefinitely?
4)Last Q, how do I change my profile name b/c i ain't no Specialist?

I hope I'm not overreacting, but when you pay for something to be done...
Thanks for reading and for any help everyone, these forums rule! and so does my car.

1.) I would ask the manager why his tech didn't feel the need to change your oil filter during the first oil change, and really ream them out for it.
2.) Nah.
3.) Even with the extra sludge that ends up in the oil during break-in, the filter shouldn't have had trouble handling it for the entire 6,000 miles. I can't imagine any damage was done, but if you can get something out of the dealership for it, why not. Don't let it happen again in the future, of course.
4.) Dunno, contact the board administrator.

I would really let the dealer have it on this one. Something as basic as this and they can't get it right. I would be a little hesitant to go back as you never know what "little insignificant" work they will skip out on next.

And I would say that odds are there was no damage done to the engine. Its not the best for it but engines are pretty tough. I wouldn't delay any planned mods just because of this either.

Probably no damage was done. But if it was me, I'd at least ask for a free extended warranty.

No damage, don't worry about it. Time to find a local independent Subaru mechanic, though!

Besides the concerns over the engine and any possible damage. I would just note for the future that the filter wasn't changed in the records at the dealer. See what the manager has to say by way of an explanation and if they can figure out which tech didn't do the work. Was it one of the guys that did actually change it for you this time? Then I guess the business person in me would want all of the money back from the first 'oil change' that didn't happen. SFRinNJ

Default Update

Thanks to those who replied.
Spoke with service director this morning. He was baffled that something like this could happen, he left to talk to the mechanic who worked on my car, (different than the weekend worker), and returned being mostly apologetic.
At first he said he could not provide the extended warranty but before long he said he probably could give me the extended power train warranty. He also offered other alternatives like a couple free oil changes , or half price on my 30K service.
Interestingly, he volunteered that if I had plans on "juicing up" my car in any way it would probably void my warranty anyway. Funny, because I wondering about that.
We did not finalize anything before I left.
So what say you, would it be worthwhile getting the extended power train warranty and being done with this or should we go a different route.
Thanks for your feedback

well, extended warranty aint going to do much for u if u plan on any kind of mods......so u're choices are to keep it stock for a looooooooong time, or just mod ur car and move on.

i would opt for the half price 30k service, don't forget, get it in writing

so go mod ur car, have fun with it.......not changing the filter on isn't going to kill ya there, i'd be pissed, but not concerned bout any engine damage

last thing, u cannot change ur screen name, unless u re-register. u're stuck w/the name u pick.......well, unless u know nick, in which case, he can do it for ya.........look at me......i picked the newbie sewbie......that didn't look right when i became a specialist, and was almost a 2 yr member already, so i changed it

mods don't necessarily void your warranty.

I would get half off the 30k myself. get it in writing by the owner just in case the service manger is no longer there.
