Talking Wentworth Springs Drive: need to pick a date

I think we've decided on Wentworth Springs for the last Sacramento Subie drive of the summer (yes, I know October is technically well past summer ). Now we just need to pick a date. I've put dates in the poll that I already know a lot of people are free for. Vote and we'll head out that day.

We'll most likely meet in the same place as last time and drive Salmon Falls road again to HWY49 to Wentworth.

ps: I took September 28th off the list due to the Vishnu Dyno Day. And, yes, I do realize it is football season.

I think it shoud be either one of the october dates, this way I can let my boss know way ahead of time that I can't work that day.

Yes, good choice!

ps: I took September 28th off the list due to the Vishnu Dyno Day.
I can make Sundays, except for Vishnu Stage 3 Demo Dyno Day. I wish I could make it on a Saturday drive but I can't get a day off from work.

And, yes, I do realize it is football season.
That's why the VCR and TIVO were invented.

Lowball, Bemani:

Since you guys have been up this road before, is there any place to stop and eat. Not necessarily a restaurant, but a large parking area where we can picnic or something similar?

Yeah Loon Lake is about 10 to 15 min from the turn tee in the road. You go left and you head to Loon Lake, turn right and you go to Ice House.

Bump.

I'll give it to the end of the week and then pick the date with the most votes.

Steve/Kevin,
How was your drive? Hopefully by October there won't be too many boats on the road

It was fun, but Kevins driving scared me a couple times Mostly cause he couldnt see the corners coming, or forgot to turn

Other than that, we ended up kinda rushing it, but I think kevin liked it We only hit 115mph on the straights though (darn altitude!!!)

Any suggestions on the return trip? 50 might be boring after all of those curves.

You can always turn around and do it again in reverse! Depending on your brakes of course. Last time I was fading so bad I didn't dare. But come to think about it I may have been able to because the 1st section is all uphill I was just scared coming down with no brakes and then when I got to the bottom of the hill...to see smoke and heat waves coming off my rotors... I think you get the point.

We can either turn around or do Mosquito Road at Placerville, which goes back up to Wentworth?

This time im going to play it smart and stay in the back at my own pace. Going uphill isn't a problem when trying to keep up in a 4eat. Going back down is another story when you don't have modded brakes. I learned that at mosquito ridge rd when i was the third car in front and had to let everyone pass because i was going too fast.

Im looking forward to it though. I'll try to start a caravan from my area (EGKK) to the final meet point. That way i can get Mikey to go (dorfito88). We'll just tell him hot umbrella girls are gonna be there.

Since Eric mentioned it, let me stress this: it is not a race or a drift competition. We're just out to drive our cars on some fun roads, have a little lunch, and then drive some more. Everyone should drive at their own pace and just enjoy the day. If you want to push it a little, by all means do it, but don't force yourself on the guy in front of you. We don't want anyone wrecking their subies.

Depending on how many people we get, we make break up into a couple of smaller groups so we don't stick out so much. We'll definitely have radios again.

Mikey better not flake again. If he doesn't come on some of these drives we're going to have to petition to have his screen name changed.

Aggressive driving or not, people stick WAY too close together on the previous drives. You won't get lost in the woods, so you don't have to follow the car in front so closely ...

e.g.

That's 2 cars too many in that picture ...

It's an illusion! Fake I say! Ask Steve, he knows my car won't rotate, unless I am overcooking it and lift the throttle because I was too close to the guy in fron....

Oh wait. Yeah. Some of us (oh, about 5, me and 4 who saw me) learned not to follow close on the last run... just close enough to judge the corner based on the car in front of you, as long as it handles similarly to your own.

On the other hand, the road is better once you know it a little. There were 2 or 3 times when I may very well have lost in in very very bad places to do so, if Steve hadn't known a 'tricky' curve was coming up. Of course, I was going a little faster than I would have on my virgin trip down the road if he weren't there.

Oh and Steve, it wasn't my driving that skeerd you, it was the MaD pOwAA!!!! of the EJ25.

50 is fine, and it gets you home fast. Its a good break cause ice house is actually where most of the twisties are, but tends to have more traffic than Wentworth.

As of 8:15am, Monday, September 22, 2003 I'm closing the poll and selecting Sunday, October 12 as the date (currently has the most votes).

I'll start a new thread with meet details, etc. sometime this week.
