Default Flatbed my car to Total?

So that's that. After 8 months of struggling with headgasket issues, the whole gasket finally blew last night which resulted in my car spewing all the coolant in the rad out into the overflow tank and then out onto the road, effectively leaving no coolant in the rad and thus overheating my car. I had to pull over 6 times heading home from my friend's house.

Anywho, I now really have no choice but to get my car over to Total and considering the MASSIVE amount of cash (which I don't really have) I am anticipating I have to put out in order to get things fixed I'd prefer to avoid calling a tow truck.

I'm hoping that someone can help me out with a favor and flatbed my car out to Total. This will be greatly greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Lawson

P.S. Or if you happen to have a wrx engine that you're selling for really really really really cheap, that would be greatly appreciated too

No one that I know has a flatbed.

It cost $100 to get my car towed on dollies from Royal Oak area to TOTAL though.

OMG!
I am sorry to hear that, Lawson!!!
I don't know anyone with a Flatbed. Have you tried BCAA? They may have better rates.

Yup, if no one has a flatbed I'll have to put more money out for a tow truck with dollies; however, if it cost Ken $100 from Royal Oak to Total... well, I'm in Maple Ridge...

thanks for the sympathy Rick. Yah, i knew this is coming sooner or later. Was just hoping my car would hold out till dec

That totally sucks Lawson, really sorry to hear that your engine is a total mess. Really wish I had a flatbed to help you out, but the only flat bed I have is the one I sleep on joking aside hope your car turns out ok

why don't u give total a call? i'm sure they have to transport rally cars to/from events so they might know someone who can do it for a good price?

as for an engine... as tora mentioned they are currently doing a wrx swap into a 2000 RS and there is a low-mileage ej25 sitting lonely in the corner of the shop looking for a good home (if it hasn't been sold yet)....

What do you know!.... Ken's Lancer is going to be towed out to Mission on Friday. He said he can come and flatbed your car back to the shop. Just drop me a line at the shop to set things up.

If you want to do it Ken is going out Friday late afternoon so we need your location and phone number if you want him to pick it up. You also have to be there to help him get it on the trailer. Ken will do it if you pay his gas fee there and back.

my concern is that if i still run into more issues with this new engine i'll be totally screwed over. i pretty much am now since i've got no money and i'll be taking out a loan for this new engine.
i'm at school full time so that means no income, and i intend to go to grad school come next september.

what do you guys think? do the swap now or wait? i might have a couple months during next summer to work.

if i do things now things will be a bit cheaper cause the engine's already in the shop. if i wait, i'll probably have to buy a beater to hold me until the spring.

i've also thought about ditching this car and buying a beater but i don't think anyone's gonna buy a car that will need a rebuilt engine. i've dumped well over 20k total for this car too. damn headgaskets. sorry for ranting. it's just really getting to me

Doesn't Total have a spare EJ25 around? If my memory serves me right, someone with a RS is doing a EJ20 swap at Total. May be Ken will let it go for cheap.

So what would that swap entail? Will a phase 2 EJ-25 run fine using a phase 1 harness/ecu?

What's wrong with just replacing the headgaskets? Will they fail again that soon?

guess i didn't clarify. yah, i've given Total a call. but regardless of the price of the engine swap (which is quite good, don't get me wrong) I'm still unsure as to getting it done. As i said before

"my concern is that if i still run into more issues with this new engine i'll be totally screwed over. i pretty much am now since i've got no money and i'll be taking out a loan for this new engine.

from what i've asked around, there have been ppl who've replaced headgaskets and have them fail again relatively soon. Plus there's still the chance of having warped cylinder heads (getting them fixed or replaced is also gonna run LOTS of $$$)

Well, I make a pretty mean Brownie...

I'd get a quote on repairing the engine first, then weigh the cost against the engine swap. can you get some sort of guarantee on the engine? I figure that your repairs might be cheaper but they only warranty that kind of work for a year right? BTW what are you studying? maybe grad school can wait.

What kinda brownies?

The thing is if he drops money into repairing it again, it has to be for sure work flawlessly and not give him any troubles later on. This is quite the dilemma as nothing is a sure thing in his case as money is an issue already.

Dude.. I feel for ya.. Sorry it has to come down to all this..
