You guys aren't going to believe this. (That is, unless someone's already posted this!
) Volvo is building a car to compete with BMW's ///M and Audi's S departments. And here it is: http://www.volvospy.com/spy/pcc.php3 Not bad!!! I'm not too fond of the excessive effort on the front grilling, but otherwise... cool effort on Volvo's part. 0-60 in 5.5 range, I think. Probably won't beat an E46 M3, maybe won't top an S4, but hey...! -S2- |

Wow, that's pretty badazz looking. I agree with you that the grill work in the lower fascia is a bit much. I'm not sure I dig the silver middle portion of the rear bumper - just keep that part blue I'd say.
19" rims, so those front rotors gotta be what, 15"? Look at the size of the frickin' brake pads!! Holy *****zu, that's some serious braking power! Pat Olsen '99 Legacy 2.5GT 5speed sedan |

Wow!
But if I only had a dollar for all the impressive concept cars that were NEVER built . . . Just a big tease. Sometimes it is hard to stay optimistic. Come on SOA - don't let us down!!!! |

Neat, huh? I saw this originally on www.bimmer.org I think, this morning. I believe the cost will be around $48,000. Competitive with the M3 at that rate. Above an S4.
I agree that it's a VERY nice effort on Volvo's part. I'd remove the grilles from the foglight area but leave the rest of it, personally. Remember though, it's a concept car... some of that stuff may not make it. Cool shifter though, yeah. And... DEAR LORD!!!!!!!!!!!... it's a STICK! ![]() -S2- |

Yeah, but buying a Volvo makes you an automatic bad driver. And I'm not sure about the 5 cylinder engine. Audi tried it for a while and ditched it. I think they should put in a straight six for that kind of money. Now if only, BMW will make a M3-X. Of course, the X standing for all wheel drive.

Nah, I think the "Volvo = safe driver" (safe meaning bad, versus being precise!) is an old adage.
As for the number of cylinders, well... whatever works, I guess. I mean I wanted a six-cylinder car next, but bought the RS. Some championship racecars are four-bangers. You never know. -S2- |

Not necessarily. Remember the T5R? That was a great Volvo. 240 hp, anthracite alloys, 5-speed tranny. Very similar to the current Saab Viggen in concept . . . |

Anyone see if the Volvo is RWD or FWD?
(Don't think Volvo'd go AWD...) -S2- |

At least you won't have the typical torque steer problems like other Swedish cars. Still, a Volvo driver pisses me off just about every day of the week. I guess they feel indistructable driving that thing. Also, don't forget, SAAB will be getting the Subaru AWD systems in their cars since SAAB is owned by GM and GM owns 20% of Subaru. You'll probably see SAAB awd's soon.

Yeah but Volvo and Saab aren't what they used to be, I don't think. Saab got worse after the GM buyout I think, and isn't Volvo owned by Chrysler or something? I forget...

Volvo is now owned by Ford I believe (I don't know if Ford actually owns them, or if they just have a huge stake in their stocks).
As for 5 cylinders, well, it is different, but Volvo's been using them for a few years now I believe. I'm pretty sure that's what is in the V70/T70, and maybe even the S80, but I could be wrong. Pat Olsen |

My mom has a MY98 Volvo T5! Good power but it sucks! Handling is not worth the $$$, and it feels like an old man's car! (very old man!)
I tried the new S40 1.9 Turbo, and it is faster than the T5 on the take off, but the T5 kills it on the highway! The car mentioned above is just a sooped up S80 with the AWD system. And if it is the same AWD system offered now with Volvo than it's 90% front and 10% back with the addition of power to the wheels that need it when needed. The Volvo AWD R which is AWD with a Turbo and 247 HP lacks in power. (Only offered in Station wagon) The new Volvo V70 T5 is something to think about! 247 HP, open the wastegate, add a blow off valve, body kit, and 19" mags, and you got the fastes station wagon on the road and badest looking to! hehe! (My opinion) Just a thpought! ![]() Jan |

Nice... Very nice.
BTW, just a little FYI stuff... in 1978-1980 Volvo made a coupe model 240-series called the GT. Car was meant to be performace-orientated, but it still had the same powerplant as the rest of the line. The Orange and Black stripes on the Silver body always looked good though (smallish stripes). |

that PCC has partially found its way to us in the form of the new S60 T5, with the same 2.3l 247hp that was in my favorite Volvo, the V70 R AWD. The T5 package has been around for awhile, but Volvo's reputation preceded it so nobody ever considered them as Audi & BMW fighters [still isn't, but comes close]. That wierdo, arcade-style shifter made production and i think there will be an AWD version in a short while. I'd still rather have an S6 avant, though...
