Question EJ20G--->misfire problems maybe? help

so the car is wired up and the only thing blinking on the ecu is 5 short flashes. i am sure of this...it is 5 short flashes! when i turn the car over, it'll fire and run for maybe 4 or 5 strokes, then die. the MAF is hooked up, IAC checks out, the ecu isn't throwing any codes other than 5, which noone i have talked to knew what that was. anyone have any ideas? thanks

Input would be great. We are on the edge of completing this project. I need my car back, so I can START my new job. Without it....it might be tough to drive 20miles, and I don't want to buy a rent-a-car.

AGAIN. IF YOU HAVE INFO LEADING TO THE FIXING/COMPLETION OF THIS ERROR... I WILL WRITE YOU A PERSONAL CHECK for an undisclosed amount. If you have Any info at all...please help out and let us know.

Sorry... I am about the biggest Pats fan you ever met. But on the serious side...

if any of you guys have any info on Smacksube's issue with my car please let me know.

5 short blinks from the ecu?
car shuts off after 2-3 seconds of running/burning fuel...firing fine.

Can anyone please help? We can provide any answers you need to help with the question.

Well 5 half second flashes is the OK code, so there are no codes in there. So unplug the read memory connector because the trouble is in somthing other than the on-board diagnosis system.

Are you getting spark on all 4 plugs? Did you check your igniter circuit, fuel pump curcuit, and injector curcuit?

the fuel pump is running, the injectors are spraying gas. i get 12v on all 4 of the ignitor wires, with the 5th being a ground.

i thought the 5 short flashes was the ok code, but i wasn't sure.

any other weird quirks or sensors that would make the car do this? i can't think of any, but it is a jdm motor?

Are you getting spark? Fuel and air can't do squat without spark. Pull each plug and have someone turn it over and look if your getting spark on all 4 plugs.

I am at work trying to keep up with the situation as it goes here. I bet your working on the car now. I think I told you to try to call TITAN in an email but I dont remember. If you call and just say, hey a guy came up a couple months ago and baught a WRX engine crossmember. Well I am doing this swap...everything is done, but this happens....

They will probobly be very willing to help out. They are nice people to their customers especially, and are complete and total subaru guru's. THEY KNOW THEM INSIDE AND OUT, so that is another possible lead, unless you can figure it out. The spark definitally sounds like it could be the issue...

its so close I can taste it. Give me a call, and keep posting, and let me know.

You can try changing out cam and/or crankshaft position sensors.

I'd also suggest trying another ECU if you can find one for your year/engine.

Well I dont think it would be a bad ECU. If everything else works like that, and it makes it turn over.

Cam/Crankshaft position sensors maybe....

What about fuel choke? You said its getting fuel, the pump is

working and everything? Cuz that could caus an instant stall too...

What about not enough back pressure because there is no exaust...other then downpipe.

Is the intercooler hooked up completly?

Not enough air? Too rich? Hard rough idle? Try revving it just a bit as soon as you start?

Call any mechanic?

Here are a couple links I found not 100% the same issue, but somewhat similar.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show.../t-373617.html
http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/Forum8/HTML/000115.html

IF ANYONE else has info PLEASE PLEASE post it.

yah, both those links don't really shed too much light, sicne both those guys were running with the Link ems and upgraded injectors. I called titan yesterday, and sent some pm's and emails, i'll be calling shiva and rallispec tomorrow, hopefully they won't be too busy to help me out.

The MAF is hooked up and working?

The fuel isnt getting flooded/too much fuel?

You tried SLIGHTLY revving the engine when starting?

The idol set high enough? Maybe its too low because of the custom procedure needed?

Would lack of backpressure effect it? I wouldnt think so because it still has a downpipe..but its a thought.

Is the intercooler completly hooked up with all the plumbing? If no, could that cause an issue like that?

Hopefully Shiva/RallySpec get back to you, or some of those PM's. I guess the next step beyond that will be to call someone down to the garage itself to have a look.

Basically I had to leave my new job a 1/2 hour early today, which looked really unprofessional, and my GF had to end up a 1/2 hour late back from her lunch break to pick me up. Its driving her crazier then it is the both of us combined. Starting next week, I will most likely be FORCED into a rent-a-car situation, which will be a pain the ass itself, and a lot of $. Either that...or have no job.

If anyone else has ANY info on why a strong/clean jspec 93' EJ20G
swapped into a 99' 2.5rs would have near instant stalling upon starting the car up please let us know. All ECU codes check out, and everything is getting the correct power/ground. We get the 5 short blinks meaning ECU is good to go.

I AM STILL WILLING TO PAY SOMEONE FOR THE ANSWER! Il send ya a check.

MAF is indeed hooked up and working.

since there's no error codes, i'm pretty sure it's not in safe mode flooding the engine.

i've tried slightly revving and flooring the engine while starting.

the idle is set by the computer, and that works becasue the car worked and idled before

i don't think the lack of backpressure would do anything, especially since there's supposed to be only another 4 feet of 2.5" pipe, and i think the turbo would add enough backpressure.

everything is sealed on the intake track, so i'm pretty sure it's nothing like a leak after the maf sensor.

man...this sucks. Then *** could it be?

What else could possibly cause that if all the wiring is correct and we know the engine is fine.

What did Titan say?
Did you get ahold of any of those people you were going to try to call?
