Ok guys, let's see if you can help me out. My car is stuck at Arby's!!! A wire, presumably from my alarm system was hanging down by my feet and I believe I kicked it free or broke it. Now my alarm won't work and it seems to have killed my engine (I have ACC power, the car just won't crank).
I think I've damaged the alarm somehow and now I can't bypass the engine kill. I need to figure out how I can get the car started - I'm guessing that I'm going to have to disable the alarm system somehow. Is this possible? Am I screwed? Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Garret |

Where is your car? Can you reattach the wire you kicked? Can you get a rolling start and pop the clutch to start it?

Hey JB, I don't think i can reattach the wire - the wire that I kicked was the one that has the little LED light on the end, just to indicate that the alarm is on.
It's at Arby's in Laurel. NO HILLS!!! |

Man, if you weren't all the way in Laurel, MD I would be there to help you out. I say find some guys to push you and pop the clutch. Or try reattaching the wires together and see if that solves anything for you, but it doesn't sound like that's the problem if it's just the LED light.

Regarding a "pop start"... you don't need a hill, long as you have flat ground and a few friends to push.
Here's hoping you get it going! : ) |

I don't think even a pop start would have got it running - the factory alarm IIRC has an engine kill switch. I think even if you get it going, the electrics won't let the car run.
In any case........I got it running. I had actually broke the valet switch (and maybe something else) right at the connection. So basically what I had to do was to cut and twist together the two wires leading to that switch. BUT, I have no alarm or keyless entry right now - I'll have to check the alarm manual to see if I can troubleshoot this. Pretty messed up. Looks like I'll bit hitting the dealer soon. G |

Check the fuse. Its hard to find, its burried up in a bunch of wires in the dash near where the alarm brains are installed. There are 2 individual fuse holders up there with the alarm fuses. If the fuse goes out the car won't start, same thing happened to me.

Just FYI,
The factory alarm has a starter interrupt circuit. IIRC there's not an ignition interrupt. Basically this means if you can pop start it, the engine will run and allow you to drive home. Incase you don't know how to push start your car: BTW, this only works on manual transmissions. 1. Round up 2-3 of the largest guys you can find. 2. Turn the key all the way on. 3. Put the transmission in 3rd gear. 4. Push the clutch all the way in. 5. Make sure you have a decent amount of distance in front of you. 6. Have them push you as fast as they can and let the clutch out quickly. 7. As soon as the engine starts, push the clutch in. 8. Thank the guys who pushed you and boogie home. Regards, Chris |

I did the same thing but I did it on purpose, now I dont have an alarm system but I do have a nice little button under the dash that you have to hold to start the car. To some this may sound inconvenient but at least nobody can steal my car.

I'm just wondering why the alarm system won't work now. What do I need to do to get it to work? The car wouldn't start without the wires twisted together, but now that I have them together, the alarm won't work.
:sigh: Perhaps I'll just take it to the dealer and let them sort it out. g |
