Not to sound too brash, but call a couple of local dealers and ask. Maintenance costs with any dealer vary by a huge amount. Finding out the 30k maintenance cost from anyone here will do you nothing as your dealers will quote totally different costs. Figures can vary as much at $300 for the "same" service from different dealers.

On top of that, if you've done some of the items on the 30K maintenance list, you can ask them how much for just the individual items you didn't/couldn't do yourself.

And on top of that, specify that you only want the work done that is called out in the SOA Maintenance Schedule, not the particular dealer's (Wet) Dream Schedule for $450.

Additionally you could go to subaruparts.com and buy the entire tuneup kit for 45.00 I believe including shipping as well.

This includes oil filter gas filter, air filter, 4 ngk spark plugs non platinum, this may save additional cost as well due to the markup at the dealership.

The 2 Marin dealers charge between $450 and $490 for the 30K, and do not change the sparkplugs, transmission fluid, differential fluid, or fuel filter. They also only do a drain on the radiator fluid, not a flush. Both charge about $30 for an oil change. So the difference being the inspections, air filter, and replacing the brake fluid, which I can't see taking more than an hour?!

When I pointed this out to the Service Advisors, I just got a shrug and zero explanation. Bianco is having a $110 transmission and differential fluid replacement special. So, I'm doing that along with some warranty stuff, and taking the car to my local mechanic for the 30K service.

I usually always go to the dealer for service, as it usually makes new car negotiations and warranty issues a breeze. But, I cannot figure their pricing on 30K servicings. God forbid the 60K!

What am I missing?

Not supposed to/don't need to, but that doesn't mean they won't try to persuade you to have them changed...

If you go to www.mysubaru.com (and register) it tells you all the things that are supposed to be done at the scheduled service intervals. Since my car just hit 30K I looked it up yesterday and spark plugs are supposed to be replaced at 30K

You can also check your owners manual for what to do on the 30K service. I'm pretty sure the sparkplugs were 60K, can't remember.
