Default VF-34 vs. VF-30

Is the VF-34 really that much better than the VF-30?

I'd get the 34 if the price was within $50....if not the 30...

Please supply data. GOGO MISINFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY!!!

Parallax: Keep in mind rebuilding a VF30 might cost alot of money. If the turbo has alot of miles (20k+) or more than a little shaft play, you might consider just buying a new one. I'm on a used VF30 myself.

I, personally wouldn't buy a used turbo.....a re-built(by a competent shop/individual) one, yes.....used....no.

And as far as I know, there has never been any real proof of the 30 spooling 'A LOT' faster than the 34....

The best part was where in one post he say's the 34 spools a lot faster, and then two posts later he says you can't tell the difference.

Nobody's really been able to document a difference between the two. You'll probably get a 100-200rpm difference in spool time. If I was buying one new, I'd put the extra 50 bucks into it. I'd be nervous about buying a used turbo.

I have a VF34 and the only reason I bought it was because it was a roller bearing. But from what I have read you can't tell the difference between the two. I think the 34 might, i say might last longer being that it has the roller bearing.

I swapped one turbo for the other on the dyno and there was absolutely no measurable difference. In the end I was having such good luck with the VF30, I just put it back on.

They are both good turbochargers so you can't go wrong either way

Thanks,

Partly hearsay here:

On 100 octane gas, I run around 21psi all the way to redline on my vf34. Someone else with a vf30 posted that he dropped down to around 19.5 at 7000.

However, tuning has a lot to do with that, and I didn't tune that car.

On top of that, most respectable tuners will tell you that there are no differences in performance.

YMMV, and have fun either way.

Obviously, there is more proof that neither one is much better than the other, but the above discrepancy is throwing me off...
Which one "supposedly" has quicker spool time?

Default my bad

o.k here we gooo. what i meant was my vf 34 by popular belief, as advertised by many performance shops, will not name call, it being ball bearing should have a faster spool than the 30, if and will i ever really know that, i don't think so. i have a vishnu stg 2 and my fren has a turbo xs stg 4 really hard to tell the diff. both cars pull real hard so once again it is just personal pref. sorry if i might have pissed any VF30 owners off didn't mean anything by it.

I think, IMO, the biggest selling point on a VF34 is the fact that it is the factory turbo for the RA and Spec C I wanted a VF34 for quicker spool, but 1-200 RPM isn't worth the additional cost. Just my .02

From what I've read, the 34 outshines the 30 in fourth gear by a worthy margin but they are very much alike.

You have any logs as to when you hit 15psi in 3rd and 4th?
