I own a 99 outback sport, got 160,000k on it, however i am experiencing a problem lately that when i accelerate i lose power around 1500 to 2000 rpm and the car seems to bog down, and then when it hits 2500 rpm i get all the power back and car is fine. however, my shift pattern, manual transmission, falls into this range and therefore becomes irritating while driving in traffic, i have to keep the rpm's up...after a while the problem goes away, and the car is fine accelerating away at any rpm range...i have been trying to show the dealership, but the cay seems to work fine once i get there...i just got a new ignition coil which fixed some stuttering when engaging gears at even lower rpm's...i run 93oct. anyless and the problem becomes more prevailent...any ideas please?

My car did that before at 65k MI, so I got new sparkplug wires and no more hesitation. Seeing that you are at 160,000km it might be about that time for you also. I also noticed that when it rains faulty plug wires show their wear by arches of electricity near the plugs and the block. Hope this helps.
BTW how much was the new coil pack and how was the install? |

also 93 octane is not needed for the obs, the ecu is tuned for 87 octane. That might save you a few Canaidian dollars.

When was the last time you changed your fuel filter? That could very possibly be the cause.

The fact that the problem goes away after the car warms up points me either toward a moisture problem (like old plug wires) that dries out when the car warms up, or some system that is mainly in use before the car comes up to operating temp.
Since plug wires are cheap and easy to change, I'd try those first. While you're at it, you might as well put in new plugs, too. |

I have a 99 outback sport and I only have 43 K on it, but I experienced the same thing, as well as in the 3.5-4 range, especially after I installed my exhaust and intake. The only way I got rid of it was by replacing the maf sensor, its recalled by the way. The problem has come back once since the replaced part, but I fixed it by reseting the long term memory. I think it should be good now.
