Default What kind of towing capacity for a 2000 Outback?

Since I'm picking up an outback in June and selling my 00RS I will be left w/o an autocross car. I'll probably end up with a CRX or an older 3 series BMW. Has anyone towed anything similar in size to these two cars with their outback? I wouldn't be going long distances, mainly within an hour each way. I"m not sure if the outback has the towing package. I think I read that the capacity w/the towing package is 2400lbs, is that right? If so I should be right at the limit huh?

Thanks, advice and opinions welcome.

um... are you putting the car on a trailer and towing it? if so the outback won't be able to do that safely, your going to need a truck. Even the outbacks with h6 engine are not ment for heavy towing, (2000lbs plus). My car has a hard enough time towing a sailboat and the trailer which is around 1300lbs.

Yeah, it would be with a trailer. Maybe I miss-read something but I'll check again.

OBS/Legacies are rated in US for 2000LBS with trailer brakes. I know for a fact that 2500LBS is not a problem at all. But you really need trailer brakes and a big AT cooler.
