Exclamation An Automotive Nightmare

Check out the hell this guy went through with his car: http://www.execpc.com/~thor101/impala/
Now, go outside and kiss your car (assuming you and your car are on kissing terms, of course).

Have you seen them? Granted, the new Monte Carlo is actually more ugly but that's hardly praise.

I just read it. Most of it, I skimmed a little.

That guy is a fool for thinking it would get better with a 2001. He is also a fool for not involving a lawyer when he was pursuing the lemon law on the 2000. He also is getting a little caught up in himself, as evidenced by the (very) large number of recent updates.

It's not really american per se, just mainly GM products. My experience with GMs is that they aren't worth the sheet metal they're made from.

The most mass produced POS in existence.

Thumbs up

All I can say is that I hope he can get things worked out! I had the same problems with my 97 Grand Am GT But it was water dammage. Every rain I would get 1" of water in the car. My car spent more time at the dealer than with me! I can go on about all the problems but I will not. Do not ever buy a GM car!!! But I must thank the NJ Lemmon Law. I got all my money back and they took the car away! I had I great big down payment for my Subie ($8,000). Thanks Again GM! Another Satisfied Customer

HOLY COW!

Didn't GM buy a nice hefty chunk of Fuji Heavy Industries? I think it was like 21% or something?

Watch it guys, GM bought something like 46 to 52% of Subaru. I will have to look up the number. I don't know exactly what the purchase agreement entails, but it is scary knowing that GM could mess with our cars or parts.

GM has always had an attitude that they know better than the consumer what is right. Look at what they did with the purchase of the Hummer. They are going to market the Hummer on a Suburban platform with a Hummer style body. How stupid!! Throw out all the good 4x4 parts that make a Hummer.

I actually read that entire thing...

Makes me realize how much I still hate big corporations.

I agree with all his demands, too. The rental until he gets a new car is a bit much, but definetly not out of hand.

Also, I don't think GM can take any action due to the web page on this stuff. It is true plain facts that anyone could/should/would/be able to know. If you can talk to someone and find out something directly from them, you should be able to read about it online.

From this site (dated Dec. 10, 1999) :

General Motors Corp. will pay $1.4 billion for a 20 percent stake in Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., the Japanese automaker that builds Subaru vehicles, company officials announced early today in Tokyo. The deal will allow the companies to share technology. GM will become Fuji's largest shareholder, but Fuji will retain its management. The deal, called a "broad partnership" by GM, will focus on small and midsize sport-utility vehicles as well as new-generation transmissions. Observers say it gives GM another means to tap the Asian market, which is expected to see demand for vehicles rise as the region's economy strengthens.

I had a Saturn SC2 before my Legacy. What a pice of s**t! Let's see, the shift cable snapped (some genius though it would be a good idea to use a plastic connector). The dome light used to fall out and smack you in the head every time it was hot out. In fact one time I asked them to replace the dome light. Instead the morons used velcro tape to hold it up. Which got hot, came off ans smacked me in the head again. Then the paint washed off the car (an area the size of your hand) and they tried to say it was a stone chip and they weren't liable. Finally, they did an oil change and forgot the oil part (and the light didn't work either). At GM quality is either job 125^10000, or completely irrelevent.

Well, as far as Subaru ever doing anything like what GM did...I just had a similar problem with the airbag light not shutting off. I've got a 98 OBS with 43,000 miles on it-well over the warranty. SOA rep got everything covered, even the crappy rental I had to drive for 10 days. They had to "pick" the part off the assembly line in Japan, so it was a long wait...but worth it! They paid for everything, even without a warranty, and I was a happy camper. Scoobys rule!
Let's hope some of Subaru rubs off on GM and not the other way around...

Have a Nice Day?

Well, I had problems I was thinking admitting to SOA that could be considered for a lemon on my RS. But this is for bodywork. There are numerous interior panels that are not attached on correctly. Some of the hooks are broken off, one rivet is missing, and some of the panels are just incorrectly installed.

The bumper came to me with scratches and a broken headlamp bracket mount. They replaced the headlamp and got me a new painted bumper skin (which is great) but the paint is PEELING ALREADY 1 month after I got the car back!! They apparently did the painting at a nearby bodyshop and Subaru only supplies them with UNPAINTED PARTS!!!

The safety and drivetrain are excellent though. No serious problems related to car safety or drivetrain.

Compared to the guy with the Impala(s) though, these are piddly problems. Geez, I didn't know that Chevy's service was THAT bad.

The guy just should have brought it back, and simply asked for another car. Anyone heard of the Lemon Law?

Holy crap, maybe next time I should read the whole thing then comment
