I found some cars on autobytel.com with ridiculously low prices, lower than invoice. For instance, I'm stuck between the RS and the Integra GS-R. I found an RS Coupe in Silverthorn Metallic(had to be an RS, not on any other Imprezas) for about $19K even, which I was surprised at. But then I found an Integra GS-R coupe in Taffeta White for $18K!!! Not even the LS Integra has an invoice price that low, let alone a GS-R, which has a $20K invoice.
To get to my question, is this some kind of scam? I mean, it can't be false advertising, especially for something as substantial as a car. Keep in mind that these are brand new cars (2000 model year), with no more than 5 miles on the clock. Each of them was within reasonable (30 miles) distance of my house, in NJ. Is it because of being so close to port (Subaru) and the factories (Acura)? I'm stunned. Plus, it's only $139 to reserve a car. I'm kind of worried to buy from them if their prices are THAT low, but then again these are cars at dealers. Please help me out! Sean PS Don't anyone go running off to autobytel.com and taking away all of those deals from me! |

The invoice price for a RS is $17,686 (+$495 for destination charge) and the base invoice for the GS-R is $20,014 with $455 destination.
Now, the GS-R used to have a $1,000 rebate. Plus, it is at the very end of a long (6 years I believe) production cycle SO it makes sense to have rebates. I know Acura has some very nice lease options on them. So, I don't think thoses deals would necessarily be scams. The GS-R seems low ... don't know why dealerships would be selling that low now (unless there are dealer incentives that aren't listed - I know that for awhile, EDMUNDS didn't list the $1000 dealer incentive but was available for dealers). |

I got mine though autobytel.com here in Houston (Gillman Subaru) and I got it for $195 over invoice. Granted they were charging $695 for the "extra clearcoat" that they put on them due to the paint problem. Autobytel customers don't have to pay for it. It came out to $18.5k not including tt&l. Kipplinger's magazine says the "target price" for the RS is $19.4k...I was pretty pleased.
Tre' P.S. This was any RS, not a certain one. If I didn't like any on the lot they'd find one for me. I chose the one on the showroom floor that had just arrived. |
