Should I wait or buy as soon as I can?
I will be graduating from university soon. It's been a long time coming and I think I deserve a new car for time served. I have been interested in a 2 door RS for awhile now. And I prefer the older styling. I understand that the new turbo, won't be available in a two door coupe. Is this correct? If not I'd prefer the older model, but I'm worried that I will not be able to get the performance I'm interested in. Will there be much of an aftermarket once the new model comes out? And will I be able to build an emissions legal turbo out of a MY01? Any thoughts on what my options are?

Reguardles of the new styling of the '02 models, the engines are built pretty much the same(the '02 will be .5 liters smaller and have a turbo charger). and there are already a good amount of aftermarket parts.(check out JC sports and SPO in the links catigorie on the top of the screen). And there are a few Turbo's that are available to. The aftermarket turbo's are most likely higher quality than the stock one that will be in the new WRX's. I say go for it, if you like the older styling. You won't have any problems with performance upgrades. Just an aftermarket Turbo alone will make a 2001 RS faster than a 2002 WRX.

no, if you have no time and if I where you I would get a 2002 WRX.
pros current model:
find aftermarket domestic parts
perfect all around car
cons current model:
takes too much money to even get near 215hp on a EJ25.
suspension sucks as always
back seats are a joke
non-turbo block (highly debatible)
2 piston front 1 piston back brake.
junk seats, junk upulstery, not impresive steering wheel
and wing I don't like
no alumium control arms and need to upgrade rear sway bar
stock transmissions suck
pros 2002 WRX:
better suspension, tranny
more hp, with cabability of easily upgrading turbo components
wider and larger tires (as seen on the sti if it comes over here)
larger interior (even in the back!)
hopefully awsome seats and steering wheel.
cons 2002 impreza:
looks like a peice
base wrx rims don't flow(subjective)
base WRX doesn't come with 4 pots?
needs a new engine redisign, something to reaccomidate for the extra weight
non-adjustable center diff
still has a crappy suspension.

If the new wrx comes in at about $25-28K wouldn't it be cheaper to turbo the RS? For $4K you could have a reliable turbo kit with a reasonable amount of support items.
If you weren't sold on buying new, you could save some more money buying a low mileage 99 or 00, then put in the turbo kit and come out with extra money. Anyway, its just a thought (and its the way I'm headed) Bought a 99 with 10K on the odometer and plan to get a turbo in the spring.
