Hey I was surfing and found the the perfect turbo/s/c solution!

PLEASE let there be a tuner out there that wants to experiment with this!

Well from what I read it says it's better than an SuperCharger on the market... nothing about turbos... So can't really say anything... other than there is no better way to reproduce the amount of power you get from a turbo, without a turbo.

Basically just looks like a new wave s/c. And in the past s/cs seem to just not work that well on Subaru's but always good to have no option in the hopper.

They're all based on centrifugal SC's, which have a boost curve similar to a traditional turbo, rather than the instant-on type power you get from a roots or lysholm type blower. If you're sold on a SC because you want the low-end torque, this probably isn't a good option.

Thumbs up

What I like about it is... that it acts basically a "cold" turbo with little maintainance required.

And although it might not be the ultimate in power... Im certain it could produce enough juice to make 99% of us happpy.

There is no current Subaru application... but if some wise tuner took a chance and made one for us... I'd bet the farm that we would all go "hog wild!"

The biggest obstacle I see is the size of these. the smallest one is 9" in diameter and used on a 4.6 liter engine. Would a 9" charger even fit in the front of the 2.5? and if the smallest displacement they are working on is 4.6 we may have to spin it so slow that it wouldn't be that efficient. Also the parasitic loss on a V8 is proportionally less important than it is on a 4cylinder. So spinning this thing slowly with boost kicking in late in the rpm range could make for a really weak bottom end.

Granted this is all speculation feel free to pick it apart!

Prochargers are crap. We ran one on our vette and we had a couple go out on us. If you are going to suppercharge (Centrifugal) stick to a Vortech unit.

Eric

P.S. The vette made 920hp with the Vortech

I think you might find that there's more maintenance with a SC than a turbo. Once the turbo is in place, you don't need to do much to it. An SC will require occasional belt adjustments, which can be a pain. Not the same set-it-and-forget-it as an alternator belt because of the amount of drag.

I guess I'm not sure about the 'cold turbo' part, because I don't have any personal experience with the centrifugal SC and their thermal efficiencies, but having used both a roots-type blower and a turbo on another car, I can tell you that the hype over SC thermal efficiencies versus that of a turbo are untrue for the most part. Any time you compress air, it's gonna heat up. Physics 101.

To each his own. I guess I'm just a fan of turbos. They're stealthier (less noise), require less maintenance, and they're smoother.
