Get a boost controller, turn it up to 15psi (I have seen guys turn it up to 17psi), full turbo back(probably catless), lightened flywheel, get it tuned(dyno and reflash), and the proper launch. That should get you to show your butt to him the who 1/4 mile. Or just take him to a twisty back road and knock the hell out of him at every corner!

I beat one by about 3" with a turbo back exhaust. Also, what year is the SRT-4? The 2004's are faster because they have an lsd and a slight bump in power. The one I beat was a 2004.

I agree. A friend of mine owns a 2003 and a 2004 (his and hers SRT-4's) I went up against him and ate him up on the launch. At about 3rd gear he started to gain, then he hit redline on his 2nd gear. He shifted and I began to pull away again.
The gap was about 4 feet from his front bumper to my rear bumper. He has the 3/16" mod and his exhaust ends about 2 feet behind the front wheels. My '02 has the Vishnu 321 uppipe, Helix catless downpipe and the Cobb AccessPort at Stage 2. Otherwise my engine is stock except for that silencer removal. I tell you what though, at STG. 1 with uppipe alone, the SRT-4 pulled on me, not hard, but he pulled on me none the less. |

i took out 2 srt-4's at the track, im at stage 2 and they lost by a good 3 cars. they just couldnt get traction on there launches. but with better drivers im sure it would be better. but most arnt to good. (16-17yr old kids.)
from a roll they'll pull you easily |

TBE + Reflash assuming you both drive your cars to their potential. |

If he can drive, and he has a 04, you're in trouble. Right now as it sits, if he even gets a decent launch you'll be toast. From a roll. You don't have a chance.
I ran a SRT-4 with a dump, PSI-Fi piggyback, intake, and a 75 shot on my VF30 C16 tune. I had him by half a car from a 45mph punch. It was the closest race I've ever been in. They haul butt. From a line I would have destroyed him though. |

STR-s will NOT pull and STi from a roll. My car only traps 99.5 and I pulled on SRT's from a roll. From a dig I kill them, it isn't even funny.
My best with the crap ECU I have is 13.6@99.5 W/1.8 60' Race him in the 1/8 get a crazy launch and get a MBC and you'll be Good. |

Anybody see the quick take on the SRT-4 in April's Car and Driver? They got a 13.9@103 mph out of the thing in the 1/4. 103 mph is damn impressive...

Yes, SRT-4's are fast from a roll, but are not from a dead stop.
I've seen basically stock WRX's beat SRT-4s at the track. Just get a good launch and race from a dead stop and you have a good chance to beat him. |

The SRT will walk a stockish WRX (resonator removal and 3/16s don't add any power) from a roll. The SRT will also win from a dig but not by as much. |

There is no way in hell you can beat an srt4. Even if he is a crappy driver. Wait until you have some money for some decent mods.
impr25rs said you need a lightened flywheel? pff, overkill. You don't have to open your tranny. Just get like 10 less whp than he has then you got him off a light. If you want him off a roll, you better match his whp. Exhaust, header/uppipe is a good start. turbo + fuel + new top mount is a better thought. My .02 |

Catless with an mbc/reflash and you'll be fine. Last time I was at the track I beat a Stage 1 SRT-4 two runs in a row. My 13.8 to his 14.4. Those things have crazy traction problems off the line, but they'll reel you in past the 1/8th - make sure he's running stock tires as well. Cheater slicks up front will help him a lot.
If you go from a roll, you're probably dead, but then again it's a race involving little skill/driving ability so what's the point? |

Give me a WRX with a turboxs high performance boost controller
16 psi as my only mod and I will beat an SRT-4 in a 1/4 mile race. Thats all it takes. The reason I say this is that almost every stock SRT-4 I've seen ran the 1/4 mile in the 14s. Now from a roll, thats a different story. I wouldn't even try it with a basically stock WRX. Last edited by SGOSWRX; 05-12-2004 at 06:29 PM. |
