Nice shot of the WRX up on two wheels from day 1. I couldn't believe how many did that and/or rolled.... I mean, it's only less than a mile of stage on day 1 (out of 200ish) and these guys were driving carelessly.

I'm not sure carelessly is the word you are looking for.

Gord Olsen in the golf is generally a very measured and precise driver, I suspect that the back end of the car simply rotated quicker than he thought it would, forcing the cut and roll ... he did drive it back to a 7th overall and 2nd in class ...

We noted that corner as a 'stay out' but you also want to try and shortcut to the left at the top of the hill ...

Without a doubt you don't want to go out on the Super Specials, but you also want to give a show for the spectators and you can't affort to *really* relax. At the Cochrane regional rally the spread from 2nd to 4th was only 6 seconds at the end of over 100Km of stages ...

As usual, Morgan, you make me sick.

Glad to hear you're planning on making it up to Baie-des-Chaleurs!

I wasn't going to chime in on the, "careless," remark, but I want to echo Keith's comments.

There are a lot of factors at play on a spectator or super-special stage(any stage for that matter).

Drivers have to push enough to post a decent time, but not so hard that they go off and loose the race on the first stage.

Rallying is all about being on the edge and trying to maintain control.

I'd ask the following question-would it be careless driving for someone to go out with a mile left on the last stage of the event? I mean, there's only a mile left! ;-)

No offense meant, just wanted to illustrate that you could characterize nearly any, "off," as careless.

Regards, John

I know Gord Olsen and know that he is one of the best (if not THE best) front drive rally driver in Canada. I guess I shouldn't have classified his roll as 'careless' since he is always pushing for a win... but for the other teams that aren't as competitive, still learning and knew about that corner, I just thought their driving around that corner was careless. Going up on two wheels and having to slow down (while risking the car) is a lot slower than taking a slightly wider line and not risking the car.

Rally is about staying in the race and finishing... there are times to push it and times to back off... I just thought that this was not one of those 'pushing it' times.

Just so you know where I'm coming from, I'm just trying to learn this stuff for myself. I've been spectating for 12 or so years, taken one rally school, NEVER driven in a rally (thus wanting to learn) and crewed for a team during this rally.
