Default Oh Em Gee! Unmarked van speaker sales scam!

i can't believe people are still trying it, but i was approached by two dudes in an unmarked grey ford van in the WaWa (convenience store) in Elkton, Maryland today on my lunch break . . .

"hey buddy, got a crazy question for ya . . . need some speakers for the house?"

my reply:

"oh, you must be those speaker salesman scam artists. no thanks, it'll be tough to beat my JBL studio monitors anyway"

them: and peeled away.

I used to work at a grocery store and we had those people out there always selling speakers.

One day my manager actually bought some.

I think I'm gonna start selling those from my company. Might make some money!

A friend of mine called up maybe a year ago all stoked over this "great deal" he fell into. Wanted me to come over to his place to hear them.....I didn't have the heart to tell him, and AFAIK he's still blissfully ignorant (and $500'ish lighter).

Nah they're total and complete crap. Basically paper cones on laminated plywood with no sound deadening material inside and piss poor guts on the inside. My buddy was told his were "water cooled" and wanted me to show him where the H2O was. (I kid you not). Garbage.

Not junk per say if you pay $50 for them. Pay more than that and that's like paying $100k for an impreza. Not a junk car, but for $100k it'd be junk.

The problem is the guys lie about the speakers.

if i had the time, i would have. i wanted to at least grab their plate number, but he whipped around the building before i had a chance. i told the manager of the WaWa that they had a "solicitor" in the parking lot, i think she grabbed her shotgun and went out to teach 'em a learnin'.

Definately not worth the 500$+ that they are sometimes getting for them. If you can get them for say 100$ or less, then its not so bad because if anything, they look nice. Chances are, most people won't be able to hear a dramatic difference between these and high end speakers, and probably won't care even if there is a slight difference.
