Heyas.
I was just wondering what they use as the centre differential in these cars. Has it changed over the years? do they use a Viscous Couple in all of them (auto and manual?) cuz i think I read somewhere that the autos use electronically controlled clutches for the centre diff, while the manuals use a viscous couple. thanks! -G- |

Garvinator,
You are correct. The manual transmission cars use a viscous coupling and the automatics do use an electronically controlled clutch pack that sends more power to the rear axle when it is needed. Punk |

Garv,
Both the automatic and manual Imprezas (model year 2000 and newer) use a viscous coupling in the rear differential while the front diff is open. Theoretically, if you lost complete traction in the rear and one tire in the front you would get stuck! Some earlier Subarus had mechanical limited slips on the front such as my old 85 RX Turbo.
