Hows the "cold air" part work? I dont see a heat shield or anything in the photo...

good idea, great for the budget minded (read: poor!) like me. i may hafta make a trip to Lowe's!

only prob is, theres no isolation box for the air intake. itll be sucking hot air. put a few more 45*s on it, and run it to the fender, like on Ganzflow's intake.

Well I have the left hood vent back plate off and the plate under the scoop off so believe me it gets plenty of cool air.

Um Blue Scooby,

I really hate to rain on your parade, because it looks like you really worked hard, Nice yellow by the way, but removing that vent will make you suck up more hot air!

Under the engine is a high pressure zone of stil or slow moving air around the engine. Right above the vent in the hood the air is rushing by creating a very low pressur zone.

The hot air from the engine compartment will rush out the vent right past your K&N, thus making you draw in more hot air.

Try this, leave the vent above the cone removed, and install the vent on the battery side. Then drive around for 15 minutes. Park and feel the vent grills on the hood. The one that is removed will be far warmer than the one that is in place due to the hot air being forced out of the engine compartment.

If the vent had a small scoop on it, then it would allow cold air in.

Again, I dont want you to think I am raining on your parade. I just want your car to run its best with your intake on it.

Either build a screen or run it into the fender. Both will help. The fender is probably better, thats how my intake goes, and it works great!

It's cool I don't mind constructive critisism. Thats how we all learn. But my idea behind what i did was so hot air would exit that vent and the cold air would come from the hood scoop and be drawn that way by the exiting hot air.

haha.. I work on the shuttles. My job is pretty cool. Just 2 weeks ago I was inside the aft (read: engine compartment) of columbia trying to figure out why a few bolts would not go through an oriface. Sheesh its tight in their!

My parts are the large valves that feel fuel from the big orange tank (ET) to the orbiter (Shuttle). One valve for LH2 and one for LO2. Each are 17" in diameter and flow upwards of 47000 gpm! That baby loves her super unleaded!! The mileage aint great, but the trip is a blast!

I am an engineer by trade, as are many other folks on this board. I would not steer you wrong here buddy. I cannot tell you that your system will hurt performance. Truth is its still better than stock. Its for you to decide what you want to do. After all, its your car buddy!

Sorry but at $100 each you won't sell too many of those. Larry's intakes are priced below that and they are alumunum. When PVC gets too hot it starts releasing chlorine gas, not good to suck into your engine.
