What does this do?

Ok now, I know a blow off valve lets air out when the throttle is closed to prevent compressor surge. But why would you need to put a filter of some sort there? Can someone explain it?

Isn't there some sort of valve that only opens up when the surge of air is about to be blown out?

Aren't I asking a lot of questions?

Under serrtain circumstances, the BOV might suck in a little if it doesn't close fast enough. That filter would prevent junk from getting into the intake pipes.

Now, I have never seen a single car with a filter on a BOV.

just a wild guess: maybe it has something to do with the changing sound? altho i cannot imagine what it'll sound like with a filter on tho

My BOV vents into my turbo inlet between the turbo and the air filter. It helps make it quieter as it blows out through the cone air filter instead of to open air.
