Question ATTN: Some one who KNOW'S 1.8s and Turbos

Ok, From my post below i found I have a 1.8 under my hood. So some one got a little caryed away with the stickers. So here is the question.

Will a water cool turbo from a 89 1.8 fit on my car? I work in a junk yard and I can find the parts. And it would be cheeper to get a used turbo. I wont to buy the headers and turbo and make the rest fit. any one that know PLEAS reply. Thanks.

If you can figure out the piping, and placement of the Turbo, as long as it fits under the hood, it fits, ya know?

a 1.8L WHAT??

I will assume you are talking about a impreza, and based on that here goes.

I would pick the Legacy Turbo turbocharger if one is avalible to you. If not the one off the older subaru Turbos will work. You then have two choices for exaust routing. You can get a legacy turbo crossmember and exaust, or run a minam style setup. Intake plumbing is dead simple once you have the rest of it done.

sorry it is a impreza. I thought that the Turbo would fit. There is plenty of room. What it really comes down to is the Headers. Will the Legasy Header fit my car? and if it dose witch is the better set up? the legasy headers or minma style? thanks for all the info. PLEAS keep it coming!

Ok, the legacy style is by far the most expensive, and is a bit better.

What I would do is make a custom setup, with the stock Y-pipe cut not far after the 90 bend. then run it up behind the subframe to slightly above where miniam puts thier turbo. Use a common 2-1 colector to make the transition. Then reduce it to the diamiter of the turbo, and put a flange on top. If you want me to I can make the flange needed for athe early Subaru turbo turbocharger or the legacy one. I have MOST of the dimentions needed for the legacy one, and all of them for the early Subaru. The downpipe flange is more difficult but can be done.

here is a few pics of the one for my Hybrid Wagon.

Note If I had to do this again I would have used a WRX turbocharger, and mounted the turbo farther back and slightly lower.

As seen in this next pics the Turbocharger I used is off of a single turbo Supra.

Nice set up there XT6wagon. I would love to see teh face of the people that try and take you at a light!

In sted of cuting my headers would the legasy headers fit? And what about my computer? I have been thinking of geting the TEC 2. but I cant find a cost and I really dont know if it would help. know if I put a turbo on I am going to need somekind of computer. And I would think that SCC and others out there would agree that 6 pigy back computers are not as good as one. So any ideas? And XT6 if I need a custem set up I will let you know. Thanks.

Well You can on a low boost situation get away with just a FPR. your car uses a MAF so it should be fairly good at adjusting for the airflow.

The legacy turbo headder shoudl work, but you need to do so much extra work and buy extra parts that I woul avoid doing that. You could always find a impreza in the junkyard and buy its y-pipe to cut up.
