well long story short car sat in my grandparent's car dock which is well ventilated and cooled for about a week. i come back and the car has trouble starting as in i had to give it some gas to get the engine to fully start. let it idle a bit thinking it just needed a good warm up. pop the hood just for a look over inspection and i find that about 4 hoses had leaked. they weren't currently leaking but they had been. Most likely they had leaked when i started the car because it was very fresh.
so i tightened the hoses back down and figured i was good to go. guess i was cause it got me home (134miles). the 4 hoses were on the right side of the engine next to the washer fluid tank. just wondering what anyone else can make of this because all i can think is the screws loosened themselves from being in a cool place for so long..... which doesnt make much sense. just gimmie any ideas.? They might be the fuel hoses, but that is weird for them to come off from the filter area.

I second the fuel lines from your discription of location. Did they lead to a black can looking thing in the driver corner front (fuel filter)? Seems odd that they leaked but if they where a bit loose I can see it. Since the car was sitting for a while the system was not pressureized anymore. I guess when you cranked it up the pressure came back up and it could have squited some fuel out of the lines if they where loose, and this could explain the slow cranking time.
How did it run for the 130miles home? Any fluid once you got home? |

But the fuel filter only has two lines- one in and one out. Sojuuk said he found 4 leaking lines. ![]() I've only ever heard of fuel lines loosening up or leaking during extremely cold weather... Did someone recently replace your filter? Possibly just didn't tighten the hose clamps enough? -Brian edit: Another possible, albeit unlikely explanation, is that your fuel filter is so filled up with crap, that after the junk settled for a week, and the system was re-pressurized upon startup, the fuel just couldn't flow through at all... |

yeahp it was the black can thing. i figured it was fuel from the smell but it was the thickness of oil but i guess that was from it drying.
and it ran great for the 130 and i did check when i got home if there was anymore leaks and it was all dry so i guess its fixed itself now. perhaps fuel filter change? |

Don't know why you're "rolling eyes" at me; I only meant to try to clarify what parts we were talking about, nothing more. Sojuuk- can you get a picture of your engine bay so we can see exactly which lines/ fittings were leaking? --I'd feel somewhat hesitant that the problem has just fixed itself. Even though you've tightened the clamps up, keep any eye on 'em. There's no good reason for it to just start leaking like that... -Brian |

fuel filter can be black. Mine is. I replaced it with a Napa one instead of OEM, so just the color difference doesn't mean that it wasn't the fuel filter....

lemme go snap a picture.
![]() ![]() you can see where the hoses have been stained if you look closely at the huge images. thank god i found that edit button. okay yeah on the engine end of the boxed hoses there is actually 3 hoses all of which had leaked and were loose. the bottom one was not the screw tightening veriaty so i had to leave it be. but the rest i did tighten and they did seem rather loose. if you are talking about the hoses to the right, behind the washer fluid that is the fuel filter. It looks kinda old and rusted with the exception of that brand new hose clamp. What is the deal with that? Was it missing and you replaced it? Before or after the "incident". Was it tight?
Anyways I would replace that fuel filter and deep clean the engine bay. The finding leaks and there orgin is much easier. |
