Checked MAF sensor, replaced O2 sensor, replaced plugs and wires, replaced Camshaft Positioning Sensor, running good gas...Car stopped revving over 4100 rpms!
Could it be a Crankshaft Positioning Sensor? Feels like the car's running really rich and smells like it too. Only mods are a cold-air intake, and WRX catback exhaust. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! //marcus |

Had a similar problem with an 84 RX-7 GSL-SE. The cat was up to about %25 backpressure.
Does it hit a wall at 4100, or kinda creep up there and not run well? |

could it be in limp mode ? try resetting the ECU by removing the negative battery cable for 10 minutes, and before you put it back on, step on the brakes a few times.

DLC - it just hits a wall - like it's topping out. The engine shakes really hard and the car bucks until I let off the gas.
rabitnutz - have tried to reset ECU multiple times to no avail. Oh, more info - looks like I have a CEL with two codes: 17 and 23 for OBD-I. I think they are Cylinder 3 misfire and MAF sensor respectively. MAF checked out fine and the replacement of spark plugs and wires should've taken care of the cylinder 3 misfire. Any other thoughts guys? //marcus |

just a cold-air intake filter w/adaptor for my stock intake tube and a WRX cat-back exhaust. Everything else is virtually stock.
I wish it were as simple as a bad MAF sensor, but when plugged in, the car works fine. When I unplug the MAF sensor, the car sputters and stalls. So I'm assuming it's working properly, otherwise the car would sputter and stall all the time. thanks //marcus |

I think the problem is you need a new shortblock... definitely an ej22T and maybe a vf22 too.

Clear the codes out, reset the ECU if you haven't and see if you can get a different coilpack and even an ECU. It does almost sound like it's hitting the rev limiter, wierd.

Have you tried cleaning your injectors?
