Default Utec questions

I'm looking for a aftermarket piggy back / reflash and it's come down to either TXS utec or the Cobb AP. Unlike Cobb AP, i wasn't able to find much info on TXS' site on each stage reqirements and output gain. Could someone please point me to the right direction? thx

The AP makes you conform to a mapping which has been tested by COBB. This allows COBB to make claims on numbers.

The UTEC allows you to get the most out of your setup -- whatever you setup is. This makes for greater flexibility, better tunes, and a bigger learning curve because you are responsible for your tune.

They are made for entirely different applications. Basically, AP=easy UTEC=custom.

i'm planning running of a base map for a few weeks or so before i can get it tuned. What modifications would you need to run base stage 2 and 3?
thx

Stage two can begin with a downpipe. Anything past stage two usually adds a turbo, injectors, and fuel pump.

Using an octane challenged stage 2 map on CA 91 (the worst "premium" gas on earth) I still needed a bit of tuning to prevent knocks. My mods were JDM STi intercooler, uppipe, downpipe, stock 3rd cat, muffler, and intake pipe -- the whole package makes a very solid stage two but I still would knock in certain parts of the rev range. The moral is that you will almost certainly need to work on it to make things perfect, so either do it yourself when you install it or don't drive it hard until you can get it tuned.

my current set up is: perrin IC hose kit, helix downpipe, borla catback, KN filter with resornator removed. I'm on the east coast, so 93 is no problem. You think i will be fine for a while on stage two?
