Default Another Rumor of '06 Imprezas

Well here is another rumor that i came across this weekend. While at Subaru dealer with a buddy, who was picking up his brand new '05 Legacy GT Limited (beautiful car), i was making chit chat with 3 salesmen, one who was a manager, and i asked them if they knew any faqs on the '06s. Well they all smirked at me and told me "brand new specs of the '06s". First off, the '06 STis as they put it will have " 400 HP and 390 ft.-lbs of torque to compete with the new Evo that suppposedly has around 400hp". They also stated that the standard WRX will have 270 HP out of the 2.5 liter block to compete with the standard Evos.

Not only that, one salesman had "a VF34 with no EM and was pushing close to 300 HP, and will have 400hp once he gets a UTEC Flash, not that whole computer system..." which last time i checked isn't a product.

You gotta love dealerships... always good for a laugh.

**EDIT**... proof of increased displacement on page 6 of this thread for those who have come late. 03/13/2005

270 out of the 2.5 seems entirely possible. The 400 would require an engine we haven't seen yet, so yes, that's completely rumour.

Just wondering since I haven't followed subaru for too long. But when the USDM STI came out, did people hear rumors of a 2.5l engine in the making, or was the STI revealed with the new 2.5l motor all together?

It was a fairly well-guarded secret to the last. Mitsubishi didnt see it coming I think.

actually, the B11s concept was a 3.0-H6 tt, @ 394hp.... we just haven't technically 'seen' it off the stage.... yes, there ARE rumors of a turbo H6 coming..the blokes across the pond started talking rumors of an STi w/ the H6 turbo when we went 2.5l. i'm one of several that's heard the wrx is going 2.5l, most likely from the LGT. that would cut costs and streamline the engine lines, as well. it makes sense. mitsu is coming with around 320+/- in the EVO9, not 400.... the STi 'should' come in around 330-350ish.

..of course, i'm just another 'dealership guy', and only hear and speak of rumors.

ha ha.. wow, I thought, at first, that this thread was.. well, I thought you believed what they were saying... ha.. everyone know's that dealers don't know the difference between apples and oranges when it comes down to new, if not overall info on subies. I know the dealers where I live barely know about subies period. I once got in trouble helping some customer lady out because the idiot salesman was giving her wrong info about the car...... "Gossh....... idots"

I think he was referring to a 400hp STi... which will never happen (In the U.S atleast) because the price would suck... unless it is something very limited like the ESX

You don't understand WRC homologation rules. They don't need a production 2.0L turbo to compete, and in japan there are the standard EJ20's that are non turbo which still fulfill the production requirement. This is how Ford, PSA (Peugeot and Citroen), Skoda, and everyone but Subaru and Mitsubishi remain in the game.

no, the WRC doesn't come to the states, so this would be an American only setup. that's like saying that they stopped as soon as we got the STI (2.5L)

i am a dealer. i also knew about the 2.5l 300hp in the STI almost 8 months before it was announced. i also knew the FXT and Bajahahaha Turbo will take the 2.5 block(no, not the same as the semi-closed deck of the STI) as the FXT. and i had an 'idea' that SoA would do the same with the LGT. so, from someone that seems to have been pretty dang accurate for the last 9 years of selling subies and 15 years of owning them, here's the deal....

06 WRX will have a 2.5l...approx 230hp(don't know tq #s, though...) i was hoping for the LGT drive/powertrain, but oh well. if you consider the FXT and it's set up with 210hp is faster than the WRX, then the 06 WRX at 230 should be a great improvement. of course, the FXT is also going to 230hp.

the STI should settle in around 330ish hp, NOT 400hp!!(unless, SoA is doing a hell of a job keeping the word mum...). also, coming in fall of 05, as on 06, there 'might' be a run of 500 LGT Spec Bs!!! most likely 2.5l with twin scroll turbo, running around 270-285hp....

but, i'm just a dealer

Thanks for the update. So it sounds like the '06 WRX and Legacy GT will remain separated in terms of power. I thought they would share the same power specs.

What's the scoop with the '06 Baja? Judging by that image posted ('06 emissions testing sheet?), it appears the N/A Baja is the only '06 2.5 N/A model with an "X" marked in the second column. That suggests to me that that model does not get the updated N/A 2.5 that other '06 models get. Is that your "read" too?

Also, the current FXT and Baja turbo share the same power ratings. If what you're saying is true (230hp for '06 FXT), will the Baja turbo also get that same power upgrade? Same question regarding the almost certain 6-speed tranny for the FXT; if that happens, will the Baja turbo also get that tranny?
