Default So for those who used a USDM WRX X-Member in their swaps

Would you do it again? Did it feel OK shimmed? Trying to determine if I should use my '02 X-Member or if I should try to find a Legacy Turbo one or a true GC8 guy. How big a deal are the shims, really?

Thanks,
James

As an option: You can buy a new Legacy turbo cross-member from 1stsubaruparts for relatively cheap ($150+) and get the proper control-arm fit as opposed to the expensive JDM GC8 crossmembers…

Right, I'm aware of that (check the 1st post ) but I'd like to hear from some people who actually have the US WRX X-member in their swaps.

For mine, I didn't think the shimming was any problem- I only used two washers for each side. The swaybar was a bigger problem for me- I used a WRX swaybar, which mounts differently on the control arms than the older ones do. I had to do a lot of hammering and wrenching to make everything work. The old bar might have worked, but I had already gotten rid of it. I think some subframe mounts have to be grinded to make everthing fit, too.

But anyway, back to the shimming... I regularly autoX and have rallyX'd the car, and there are no problems so far.

Its not just the shimming. The sway bar brackets/bushings are different too.
