Default Comparison poll: RS <01 vs. RS 02

Which is the better buy?

RS <=01 advantages:
Sunroof
Old styling
200 lbs lighter
Foglights standard
Spoiler standard
White faced gauges

RS 02 advantages:
New styling
0.4" more rear seat room
Trunk pass through
Improved interior
Less windnoise
Probably a better drag coefficient (no hoodscoop)

I believe these two are the same price. (I think it's a bit obvious--the 2003s had better have sunroofs!)

Two other things of note...

MY01:
Limited Slip Rear Differential (still pissed about missing out on that one!!)

MY02:
WRX suspension, therefore it can handle a 20mm rear anti-sway bar without upgrade.

sure its a bit heavier, but the 02 is the same chasis as the WRX which is something like 150% stiffer than the old Impreza.

Doesn't the 02' have a MAF sensor like in the 99'? The 00' and 01' have a MAP which is way better. I'm not sure if the 02' really has a MAF though, thats just what I was told. I voted 01' because I have a 00'

The chassis on the 02' is stiffer though

the laws of physics do not apply to me

No

Open the hood of a '00-'01 and a '02 and they look almost exactly the same

The 2002 RS has the same suspension as the WRX? I didn't know that. BIG vote for 2001 RS!

There's no reason to buy a 2002 RS really..... except if you can't find a 00-01 then I guess you're stuck.

98-01 better looking, lighter.

My vote goes to the MY01 RS because it looks better than MY02 RS.

Question

...no reason to buy a 2002 RS? I guess I missed out on that 5k raise that everyone else got this past year. Is there some kind of form I need to fill out to claim that?

All in good fun, of course. It's all subjective anyway. I personally love my 2002 RS!

Well, one thing you could do with your 02rs is that you could always put a WRX hood and maybe a WRX badge and everyone well think you have a real WRX for 5K less!

This poll is stupid, something like this comes up every week. 98-01 owners will go for their cars and 02 owners will vote for the 02.
Then everyone will start to flame everyone....

I personally love to hear this arguement!

IMO, the GC8 is better since now it is cheaper, and better looking.
If I can help it, I will never buy a new car.

crash: I totally agree, I'm planning on keeping this car forever. Eventually getting another car(Subaru) and turning this one into a fun weekend and once in a while weekday driver.

I looked at both and had the choice to buy either, the dealer had just got the MY02 and had a few MY01's left, same price, I opted for the MY01 Sedona Red Sedan 5 speed, Lighter ( 200 pounds, thats about .25 secs in the 1/4), sunroof!!!, hood scoop! styling is always subjective, but I had the choice between the 2 and I liked the MY01 Stlye much more, plus more porven mods that are gaurenteed to fit the MY01 but maybe not the MY02....the MY02 RS Does not have the same suspension as the WRX! ask any REX owner, also the chasis is not 150% percet stiffer, its 50% stiffer, some people dont understand percentiles, by saying its 150% stiffer that means its 2 and a half times stiffer than an MY01, uh no! the sunroof removal helps, yes but not 2.5 times stiffer.

Actually, I think they said there was a 240% increase in torsional rigidity or some other form of stiffness. I'll check around.

I definanetly like my my01 better then a 02. Because it looks better and there equal. I mean the 02 has those looks and no turbo.

I love my 02 RS and like the fact that it generates so much argument. It's also pretty cool that there aren't many around. I have yet to actually see one besides mine on the road. Tons of Rexs around though.

I also think us '02 RS owners get a pretty sweet deal. Think of it... we get all of the proven 2.5L engine mods and they're all readily available and lots of people have experience with them PLUS we get all of the new fresh body kits and new product hype surrounding the WRX.

Let's see what new products become available for the <=01 RS's over the next year or so.
