Default anybody know anything about the subaru 1.8 turbo drivetrain?

hey all, im looking into buying an 89 subaru RX turbo. apparently it has a 1.8l turbo engine. I know nothing about this drivetrain. its got a manual tranny, and apparently has the quicker of the two available differentials. does anybody have any insight into these cars, or the late 80's drivetrains? thanks in advance.

I know quite a bit about them. What do you want to know?

BTW, they have the Higher geared of the two diffs available, not the lower/quicker one.

Turbo cars used 3.70. N/A manuals used 3.90.

The RX is a fun car. If it runs, isn't rusty and the rpice is right, buy it, then mod the hell out of it.

Im thinkin about buying it. Im just wondering how the drivetrain holds up and all. I need something reliable, and relatively easy to work on if it breaks. Is there anything in particular to watch out for in these cars?

very easy to work on

if there are no maintenance records, your best bet would be to give it a good freshening when you get it.. timing belts, water pump, maybe cam seals if they are leaking, reseal the oil pump.. all fairly easy stuff.. all of the above can be done in an afternoon, or a weekend if you are a little slow.

Make sure the cooling system is up to snuff.. they do not like to be overheated
