what is the detonation sequence, if you are facing the car. 2.5rs my02

Front left, Rear Right
Then Front Right, Rear Left

Same on all the 4 Cyl Boxers

I think that translates to 1-3, 2-4

correct, and FYI, detonation is a bad thing. You mean ignition.

The front is the part that is towards you and from this perspective layout is :

Passenger side seat------------------------------Driver side seat

1---2

------------Front of car----------

I could have sworn that it did not fire two pistons on the same side at the same time though. Seems unbalanced to me somehow.

Two pistons do not fire on the same side at the same time. Remember this is a four cycle engine so each piston only fires on each second crankshaft revolution.
