Question Outback exhausts?

I am on the market for a performance exhaust for my '97 Outback, and I am wondering what is out there that doesn't need any modification to work. MRT tells me that they can make one, definitely aluminized and possibly/probably stainless. Stromung makes both as well. Those are the only ones that I know of. I am hoping that Borla does, but I am thinking that they probably do not. What else is there?

Thanks, Doug

Make sure it is indeed for an outback, since gt models are too short in tip length and bend.

Does anyone know if Brullen makes on that would work? When the time comes to get a new exhaust that is where me and my money will be headed! $550ish for a complete stainless steel set up. YUM

tahrndt,

If you don't have an Outback, then the Borla would also definitely be worth considering (full stainless cat-back for under $400). Unfortunately I don't think they make one that will work without welding mods on an Outback. I am checking into it though...

Yep they do. Brullen used my wifes' Outback as a pattern.

Question Hmmm...

JoeT,

What year Outback? I would guess that this would have the quiet /medium/loud option and be a cat-back bolt on system? So your wife's Outback has the system on it, or they just used it as a pattern? What diameter tip? How does it sit in the bumper opening? The Brullen systems sound nice (on "paper") and I think they are a decent (but not screaming) deal. I don't really need stainless here in AZ, but having it show up at my door and just bolting it on would be nice (vs. running around finding a place, potentially losing use of the car for a day or so, etc.).

Thanks, Doug

Edit: GTBGUY confirmed that there is a Brullen system that fits the '96-'99 Outbacks. I don't have all of the details yet, but I think it is the same price as the other Brullens systems ($510 for 2.25" or 2.5") and has the quiet/medium/loud options.

Smile Thanks JoeT!

Folks,

There is definitely a nice Outback system out there now. Unfortunately, I am cheap (I can admit it :^) and I am pretty sure $585 is too much for me. I will probably try an aluminized MRT system with a locally made resonated midpipe for <$250. I am in AZ so rust shouldn't be an issue, and Jet-Hot ceramic coating has a facility here so I will probably just have it coated if it starts to get ugly.
