Cool a Supercharger through the grapevine

Stopped by my dealer today to get the crappie plastic thing that goes over the oilfilter replaced,, only 3500 miles on my car and its broke... Anyhow,, He says " you'll be trading your car next march" Seems he got word of plans to produce a 294hp
Supercharger Legacy and possibble release in the states next march. S.O.B I said I just bought my 2001 GT thinking that any beefier Legacy would be at least 2-4 years out. Seems it might get the engine from the STX Due out this fall butits only 230hp,,But he said " 294hp" hmm hmmm hmmm Makes you drewl
Perhaps its goin to be called the Legacy GT-S
Let me know if you have heard this rumor too!

News to me, but we can always hope!

It'd be nice to have a Legacy with more HP than the Impreza for the first time since 97.

Well I personally will believe any of this when I see it. I HIGHLY doubt that a Legacy will have 294hp...haha that is more then the B4.... thats just not going to happen and as far as I know from SOA there isnt a more powerful Legacy yet. Maybe its true but I really doubt it and well I can hope just like all of you are

Default supercharged legacy

Well, the michigan company that made designed the supercharger for the STX went out of businesss waiting for subaru to decide if it was going into production, so it seems like the supercharged 2.5 isn't to likely. But I was inquiring about doing an EJ20T conversion in my 97 GT w/ the company that is working w/ subaru and prodrive on the ProRally car, and I think will be working on the US STI's, and they told me to wait a year or two, and that we will see a turbo, 6spd legacy. I think a lot of this will depend on the success of the WRX.

Well, they will have to do something to compete with all the new models that are all pushing 200+ HP. While they still have the all wheel drive, but HP gets the blood flowing.
Plus, at 3300lbs, 165hp is a little light. Kinda pissed that the supercharger 2.5 may not come to pass. I definiatly would have 'upgraded' with the bolt-on eatons supercharger and the B4 intercooler.

Well, they'll probably go to the H6 before they do a forced induction model. The engine is already there, and a N/A engine is easier to produce.

They're going to have to do something, though, if they want to compete in the mid-luxury class.

Now if they would only bring back my precious hoodscoop .

MY pretty reliable SOA contact says no new news on 2K2 GT- pretty much carryover. Jury is still out on 2K3 though; that is where, I think, we are going to see some sort of powertrain upgrade. My personal hope is for a turbo, but all this turbo vs. H6 vs, Eaton is pretty much speculation for at least a few more months.

I am starting to believe it's a hopeless cause

and as for the hoodscoop I can't agree with you there... my 2000 an 2001 look damn great I definitely wouldnt want a hoodscoop on them but that is a personal opinion for sure

aren't the b4's in japan still running the 5-speed? if so, there's not much of a chance that we'll see the 6 gear tranny before them. they usually get new stuff a year or two before the states.

The 6 Speed tranny rumor might be consistent with the concept of grafting the WRX/STi drivetrain into the Legacy. That would probably be more cost effective for Subaru, assuming they're currently going through the EPA / DOT approval processes for that drivetrain. Its one of the reasons they like the 2.5 so much- having done all the paperwork, they can just drop it into every model.

Yeah, well I heard that the only engine SOA will offer in the Legacy will be a NA 2.2L engine that has 299 hp running 87 octane and gets 38 mpg. Plus it will have the STi varible select center differencial. Also it might have NO2 from the factory with a special program from the dealers that will give you free refills for the first 3 years or 360 races!
I will believe it when I see it!

My friends mother knows somebody that once lived in Japan and he told her that FHI is coming out with a Diesel turbo 5 litre engine for the Forester. They gotta somehow compete with the Ford Excursion!
