Post Who's installed a S-AFC in their Legacy???

I'm getting my S-afc wednesday this week and was wondering who has installed it in their car?

The main question is what kind of ECU do I have? i have a '99 GT, is that the same as the '98 RS? or '99 RS? Kartboy.com and lagging.com have the schematics for those year cars and am wondering if my ecu wiring will match up???

Also, where have you mounted your S-afc? In a obvious spot or subdued one?? Your thought's please!

Thanks in advanced!

The install is the same as the '98RS' We have the EJ25 DOHC engines, so it'll be the same.

Question

Carvey (2kGT),

have you noticed any benefits of putting the SAFC in there? I've not looked at your mods list, but I'm curious what benefits youre seeing w/ it in.

Is this a pre-turbo installation?

Just take a look at www.apexintegration.com

I installed mine just below the ashtray. It can be folded down for use of 12v power. Beeings I don't smoke it's no trouble at all. It was easy too. After my custom gauge install I didn't want to take on another deep project...especially since I was installing a turbo too.

uhh matt the link doesn't work.

custom gauge install huh? got any pics? I may go the route of turbo or may stay N/A to the extreme for more reliability... so either way i'll need to throw a gauge or two in and would like to see how you've done it.

thanks!

BTW Jonathan-

A S-AFC is a Air/Fuel Mixture computer. (the S stands for "super" as there is a regular AFC by apex already. The difference between the two is the "super" has a really kewl looking display ) The "official" name is: Super Air Flow Converter

It's job basically is to allow you to adjust the (obviously) Air/Fuel Mixture ratio. I believe the Pre '99 SOHC 2.5L engine ran a bit rich with mods like intake & exhaust, even after reseting the ECU. And '99 and later ran leaner with the same. The S-AFC or AFC can adjust the voltage coming from the MAF/MAP/MAS whateva into fooling the ECU that there is less air or more air entering the intake. Thereby leaning or enrichening the Air/Fuel mixture being injected into the engine.

Here's a pic, courtesy of Kartboy! (thanks! )

well...to tell the truth it does make a difference...but the problem is this it's really hard to set it right. Right now i still don't know i have the right setting cuz i lose low end, but my high big difference....once i hit around 3500-4000 it feels like something kick in and pulls a lot stronger then stock...also the power is a lot stiffer....don't know which word to use.but all i can say it makes a difference....let me find a picture of my safc..show it where i put it...

Angry

arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! so i goto install my s-afc. I remove the ecu covers and etc. So i take a look at the harness and the harness diagram that I downloaded from Forcefed4.com .....uh [i]Houston, we HAVE a problem!!! The colors of the wires don't match up. Okie, just for s**ts and giggles I take my voltmeter to see if at least the positioning of the wires is correct....uhhhhhh the 12v contant wire is no where close to where the diagram sez it is.... and to top it off, it's not a big fat wire, it's a skinny White one with silver dots!! WTH!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone have a clues what's up with my ecu? Or how about has anyone actually installed a S-AFC into their MY95-99 Legacy? If so, Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeassssssssseeeee Contact me!

silverSurfer - Don't look for the same colored wires, look at the terminals and what they are for. Go to AZscooby's webpage, they have the ECU pin outs there... just match it with the EJ25D's description for Apex-i

Question

i went to azscooby.com I couldn't seem to find the pinouts there. But anyways, i didn't just try to match up the colored wires. I also took my voltmeter and tested the terminals to see if the Constant Power terminal was in the same location as the diagram said it was. - It was nowhere close to it - so i think i could fairly safely say my harness is different than a 98RS ecu???? Please someone say I'm wrong and a freaking phool...cause this is driving me nukin futs!

ALRIGHTIE!!!!!!!!! finally got the correct ecu pinouts from the dealer! (thanks Dave @ Metric!) It seems that since the Legacy was built in the US, it's harness is reversed in terms of the pins and the wire colors are different. The good news is that the pin #'s are the same for the 98RS harness, just different locations and colors. I've just finished translating the colors and I'm about to go install the S-AFC finally! I'll scan the wiring diagram and post it up later for all to reference!
