Default RWD Conversion Possibilities?

I have a friend who converted an S13 240SX to AWD along with his Skyline engine swap. He set the car up so it was convertible from RWD to AWD on the fly, through engaging a hydraulic pump. Is anything similarly possibly for an AWD to RWD conversion on a GC8?

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the way subaru trans are made its based off a FWD, so it can be FWD on the fly. You can make a RWD trans, but then it loses AWD. Like anything with the money and time anything can be done.

nope. they are built AWD. it can easily be RWD though by messing with the diff.

clark (azscoobie) did it.

i believe subaru is based off rwd and evolutions are based off fwd. just looks at how the engines sit. the evolution's sits just like a fwd car.

That's totally not true. You're basing this on how the engine is mounted, transversly or longitudially. Have you ever seen a boxer engine not mounted transversly (or whichever way all boxers are mounted, I always forget which)? Also, if they are RWD based, why hasn't the layout of the engine tranny changed since the FF1 was made when they were only FWD?

I think what Wicked was trying to say was that the general design of the transmission is a FWD transmission, which it is.

An on the fly setup would be fairly complicated considering the design of the center diff.

That is what I am trying to say, also I know of auto trans that have that were setup to take off in AWD then can put into FWD, but they didn't have that good of luck with it.

You don't need to do anything to the front axles if you just remove the splines that transfer power to the front.

there is a center Diff in japan that you can buy for $400 and it will make it 100% RWD. I have impreza magazines that shows it.

yes there are dealers in the us to

but not in a purly switchable

a dccd tranny will allow from 100 to 65% lock but not any more

yes 5eat trannys are primarly FWD with a wet clutch that engages the rear wheels upon slip
