Default Moving to Germany...what Subie do you get?

There are a few good threads out there about going to Germany, but none specifically talk to this.

I'm taking my 02 WRX with me to Germany, but I'd like to get something special while I'm there. I've gawked at a GC8 Impreza GT, but I guess there are also some nice older turbo Legacies over there. If you were going, and had about $25k US, what do you buy?

Also, anyone know what it would take to make it US legal and how much that would cost me?

Something in a nice GC8. An RB5 or 22B if you can find them.

I would also get a GC8 any Version 5 or 6 would do. I wouldn't know if you could make it US legal, but of what I have heard, if it is possible, it takes quite a bit of modding. Maybe people who have had JDM swaps and tried at making them legal will know a little more on that...

Although that car is freakin' awesome I doubt it'll go for 26k US which he said is his price limit. I'd go for a GC8 for sure.

I would have sold car here, get cash and buy something that you will never get in US.
Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, Seat, euro Ford or Opel(GM).

If you are going with military I think that fuel is not a problem but if not then think about diesel. I bet that you want to travel far.

Krzys

PS $25000 will not get you as much car in Europe as in USA. Would you have to pay all taxes?

Whatever you decide on,get a nice suspension to go with it,beautiful roads around the country with lots of twisties.Lots of houses and stores are built right on the streets(cobblestones) and you dont want to go sliding into them. When you are on the autobahn,please....please stay out of the left lane if you are not doing 150 mph, courtesy is the key."Black ice" is a mutha#$%% too so an all wheel drive would be great.

Good info. Thanks. I was originally set on the GC8, which is pretty plentiful used. After the exchange, it looks like I could get a very nice one for about $15k US. But I'm sure its a bit tired, so we'll see what I think when I actually drive them. I also have to factor in the cost to make it US legal, so that takes away from my price range as well. If I find a really sweet car, I could go higher, but I get pretty bored quickly with cars, and I don't want to sink a bunch into something I'll just sell anyway!

No, you don't have to worry about making it US legal because you can't.

It's impossible, trust us. You will hear all kinds of stories of how folks did it, which is complete crap. AFAIK no GC8 sold in Europe meets US crash or emission regs. If you try and get one it it will never get past Customs.

The german version of Autotrader.com is http://mobile.de. Obviously it's in german but doing a search is easy enough. For around $25K you're looking at an '02 STI.

Don't expect much exotic versions, the Germans are strict about what gets let in. And no mods either, really.

If I were going to move to Germany I'd get something like the new Volkswagen MkV R32, Renault Clio V6 (the midengine one), Alpha Romeo, Audi RS4, then one of the Europe only STi's. But damn there are just too many awesome cars to choose from there! I'd have to take a few weeks and explore my options.
