No comments on potency, test drives will happen soon

The Btype (MY00) did 0-100kmh in 5.5secs, 0-400m in 14.3 in magazine testing. 6sec 0-100 times are pretty easy to do (esp with a good sports muffler ).

New B4 power specs (auto in brackets): power:280ps(260)/206kw(191kw), torque:35 kg/m(32.5)/343Nm(319Nm) - sorry, I can't remeber the conversion for torque, but power runs around 276hp (catalog numbers). Check legacy B4's site for test info etc. here

edit-got auto numbers/kw+Nm specs

Cheers.

Thumbs up

OK - drove the "new" B4 yesterday - unfortunately it was an auto (with sport shift of course). We were 4 up.

So, the auto is no rocketship (esp this one as it had less than 500km on the clock). It never was.

The big improvements are in the suspension and chassis (have to get a manual to judge the engine. The stiffening work has allowed the engineers to make the car a lot more refined - and the new bushes make the car even smoother than before! Can't confirm that the sus has had any rate changes - still working on that.

I guess everyone will be wondering if the "refinement" has taken some handling away - the answer is a definite no!

In stiffening the bottom end of the suspension up, the car turns in more fluently, and the weight shifts don't get the rear swaying like it used to.

All-in-all a good upgrade I feel.

Something to look forward to - hope they get you the sus-package!

Cheers!

Why cant I find any information on the Legacy B4 / Blitzen on the German Subaru web site. Is this car even sold in Germany? According to the Soob of Germany "official" web page the Legacy does not even come in a "turbo" version. THAT IS JUST WRONG

Well, we've done some Btype (our cars) vs Dtype (the new one) photo back-to-back checks and it seems that some pretty major work has gone on underneath the car (The Aussies really have something to look forward to!!).

Apart from the fore-mentioned re-inforcing, looks like bushes, some location points (dampers being one) and links have been heavily revised , which would explain why the car is so much better! (just for flameproofing - IMHO)

Gotta find a manual to test!

"Wrong", the car *is* sold in Germany, or "wrong" that Subaru doesn't sell the car in Germany? On the second point, I would agree.

No, the B4 RSK is not for sale in Germany. ("B4" is the generic model name given to sportier Legacys in Japan). At least it's not sold through franchised Subaru dealers. I doubt Subaru even makes the B4 in LHD. Only Japan, New Zealand and Cyprus (all RHD markets) get the B4 RSK, although the Aussies (also RHD - you cannot even register a LHD car here) are soon to get a slighty detuned version.

Subaru means almost nothing to the German car market. The WRX/GT Turbo has a following, as ever, but the European car market is heavily protected against international competition. High import tariffs are imposed on foreign manufacturers who have no manufacturing base in Europe.

Perversely the B4 would probably do quite well in Germany, as the locals have quite a taste for high-performance sedans. Whereas Australia (and to an extent NZ) have some of the most heavily-policed roads, with the lowest tolerances and highest penalties, in the developed world (Carl Scully's words, not mine)...
