Default pricing on used wrx

Hi guys, I'm looking into a used 02 wrx with about 60k km's on it for $23k. what do you guys think its acctually worth?
I've seen the blackbook value and its around 17k. But ofcourse i don't expect to talk a dealership to anywhere near that.

If you were out east you could get one for under 20k no problem. In VAn your probably going to see over 20k still. Blackbook means very little nowadays. Your best bet is to play hardball and be prepared to walk away and play a waiting game. Most dealers have a 6k markup on used cars. Where are you buying it from?

If you buy from DD get it inspected and look at the car thoroughly. Don't take what they tell you at face value.

Some people have mentioned it in the past. I had a bad experience compounded by the fact they had terrible follow up and lied to me flat out to my face. Then tried to cover it up with another lie.

ah, I didn't know that. last time i bought a car from the dealership it was one of those 'certified preowned' cars, so i didn't think i need to worry about getting it inspected.

It's a tough call to make.
BCAA does some kind of 100-point inspection. However, some of those 'points' include stuff like 'make sure seatbelt is functional' or 'lights turn on'. They definitely cover a lot of details, but the question is 'to what extent'? For example, they might look for rust on the panels, but they won't look for scratches and small dents. They might make sure the power windows work, but they won't mention whether the motor is weak, or whether the windows squeek like crazy. What the checklist doesn't detail is the condition of the engine or the transmission, or the drivetrain ... all of the larger components.

Think also of a dealer: these are professionals who are trained to sell used cars. Do you not think that they also have the checklist that BCAA uses? I know that if I were a dealer, the first thing that I would do is make sure that my used cars conformed to that checklist. Knowing that BCAA doesn't look at certain things, I might also be inclined to overlook the condition of those items.

In the end, do a BCAA inspection, but don't take their word as gold.

how about get your own mechanic to look at the engine and things that BCAA doesnt covere completely?

These are one of the many reasons why I dont really like used cars...

I would find a mechanic you trust or independent shop. Get them to go over the car, explain some specific concerns.
DD missed a seat bolt recall. The front right side seat bolt was MISSING. They told me they would rush one to me, it came 3 days later....and when I found the holes in the carpet he said they would have found that in the inspection and they couldn't be that bad. Then he tried to bring up that my trade in car (which they had on the lot) died on a test drive, it was a dead battery, he was accusing me like it was my fault!!
There where holes cut in the carpet under the floor mats for a cage. The exhaust they installed was hitting the heat shield from the moment I drove it off the lot. The pill in the turbo tube was m.i.a. so the car was not boosting the full amount. A power steering hose clamp was loose. There was a blot missing on the side of the dash(when you open the door). The salesman was very nice and helpfu but flat out lied to me. Tried to show me some paper in his hand that he said were the service records from DD that showed the car was in for it's regular servoce and there were notes saying it wasn't modified to which I found out that was a lie.
I would have bought the car regardless, for a better price obviously, as it is tough to find a unmodded or molested WRX or STI. Don't fool yourself into thinking otherwise.

Those are the kind of things to look for.

Perhaps you should ask Buster what kind of beer he likes to drink?? If he doesn't bite, switch to single malts.

I drink Crown on the tough days and Stella the rest of the time. Too bad for you I live in Vic otherwise I'd be more than happy to just wander on the lot and check out a car and ask the sales team a few questions. Don't know if I would walk back on to the DD lot, I might see the salesguy and regret my actions later. I know there are people that have good experiences there, but I am just saying beware. If they can cut a few corners and get away with it they will do it.

One reason I was so pissed about the seat bolt too was that my wife was 6 months pregnant and on the second day we had the car she said it felt like the seat was moving (drivers). Think of what the consequences could have been if there was a accident. And the fact they gave me attitude and shipped it slow after I brought it to their attention.....please.

man that's a pretty scary thought. lying salesmen can do more damage to you than just your wallet.
