Default Aliens abducted my car (wierd phoenomenon)

So the story starts last Thursday when I was out of gas and happened to be at Costco. I decided to fill the tank there and save a few pennies. By Friday afternoon my car was running like crap. It felt like an invisible hand pushing back on my car at ANY level of acceleration. Basically, if felt just like when my wife accidentally put in 87 instead of 91. I figured that Costco sold me the wrong gas and I was going to go back to complain. Well, yesterday afternoon I took the Saabaru out to run an errend and noticed that it was running unusually good. I didn't get on it hard but noticed that low RPM acceleration was great and the turbo lag was not really there. This was really strange consiering it was 100 degrees outside and I had the AC on.

This morning on the way to work the car was running fantastic! No surging, no falling on it's face, nothing. It's even running better than when I put in a 94 - 95 octane blend a few weeks ago. It even pulls good in 5th gear. I immediately called my wife to ask if she secretly had the car tuned as a suprise. I just don't get it. What could have happened?

You drove the car around with crappier gas, and the car felt horrible. You got used to the way it felt, but over time the ECU adjusted its LT trims and it's back to normal. To you, it felt as if the car got better, even moreso than when you put 94-95. Although adding 94-95 wouldn't be any better than 91, if your tune is for 91. The extra 3-4 octane would serve as a knock buffer.

Perhaps it's all mental, but the car is accelerating super smooth now. You know how in stock form these things kind of hesitate in small spots under WOT? I guess it's been explained as thye go in and out of closed loop. Well, it doesn't do it anymore. Turbo lag in the low RPM's is reduced. It is pulling hard even in high gear. I don't know. Maybe I'm nuts.

Audible knock is serious. I've been reading up tonight and it appears that if you get on it at the right point the car can run dangerously lean during the trasition between closed loop and open loop. An aftermarket tube will fix this, but unfortunately I don't have $600 to blow on an AP.
