Question wrx mpg...what's everyone averaging???

on a full tank, per gallon, etc.

i drive kinda fast, sooo...i'm getting about 280-290 on a fulltank of 93 octane BP unleaded.

i don't know what that translates to per gallon ('cause i forget how big our gas tanks...okay, so i don't read the manual much)

anyway, what is everyone averaging...JUST CURIOUS.

thanks,
db97

My best is 348 before the fuel light came on. That is with about
%85 high way driving at 80-95mph cruising speed.

I only get about 230-250 miles per tank of gas. Most of my driving is in the city so that might have something top do with it. But I did get 330 miles per tank going 80 mph on the freeway on a trip a few months ago.

db97, what I've been doing is this...next time you fill up, note how many gallons you just pumped in. Take your mileage / what you just pumped, and you should get an average of mpg.

I've been getting around 21-22

Last tank was about 22mpg in mixed (but mostly freeway) driving. Right now I only have about 2,000 miles on the car, so we'll see if it changes.

I'm lucky to get 20 mpg in city driving. I can get 22-23 when I am doing open highway. I use 93 octane.

I get between 20 and 25 mpg. I was getting an upper end of ~27, but then I moved out here to the land of shady 91 octane "premium."

Figures. Once I get a car where it actually matters what you put in, I move away from easily-obtained 94 octane...

D'oh!

I use 94 all the time because its cheap here in jersey.. well i think its not so bad at least.. i average around 23-24mpg .. go to about 285-300 miles on every tank... my best was 28mpg but i have also had a few more highway runs of 27.. i think its pretty good mileage, i'm not complaining.

Default 16-18 mpg!

Mainly short hops in town tho. Lucky to go 220-230 before light. 20 mpg on hiway, but only 2K miles on car

I know the question is for WRX's but I'm confused.
First of all, how do the WRX's get better MPG then the RS's? I only average 20mpg. I have had my RS since April 00 and I have never broke 23 mpg...
I admit that I drive hard, but I dont get it.
Oh yeah and both our gas tanks hold 15.9 gallons.

Whaddayaknow!?
I just got a hair over 25 mpg on a mostly (85%) freeway tank. Perhaps the engine's breaking in ... or perhaps I'm learning how not to put my foot in it

Your engine has a larger displacement, so it uses more gas most of the time. The WRX sucks more gas down while it's under boost, but that's only a small percentage of the time that the engine is running. The rest of the time it's just a puny 2 liter, 4 cylinder.

That's the beauty of the turbo: two personalities in one engine.

Also the WRX has a better gear ratio for crusing - it turns less revs at the same speed when in 5th gear. That equals better mileage.

That said, I sure don't get better mileage than I did in my 98 GT - but I sure go faster!

my first tank I got 15.83 mpg, second tank (332.5 miles to 508 miles) I got 19.87 mpg. Who knows what it will be when I stop driving like a granny! 715 miles today, hopefully I'll go over 1000 this weekend.

At 5,000 miles, I am averaging 23 with mixed driving and a few sprints here and there (to keep the carbon out of the cylinders....ha!). Best mpg was 24...worst 21.....oil was changed at 3,000 miles and dealer put dinosaur 10w-30 in.....ouch!...thinking of switching to full synth 5w-30....have heard mpg may increase 2 mpg...any thoughts?

Thumbs up

Took a trip to Columbus this week. Got 325 miles before light went on. Figure I could easily get 350 out of this tank but have never run out of gas and don't plan on starting now.

Well I just took a trip from Sedona AZ to Boca Raton Fl. About 2,500m and I averaged 25-27mpg the whole way. I cruised at about 3500-4000rpm most of the time. I was suprized the difference the Ganzflow CAI and K&N filter made on the long trip. I guess that my in town driving habits kill my mpg.

This is when a CAI is a nice thing. I am getting about 26-28 mpg highway and roughly 23-24 city mpg.

I started tracking my MPG in a notebook that I update every time I fill up. My worst mileage - 17.2 MPG averaged over 11 gallons (with an autocross). My best -- 29.1 MPG averaged over 10.8 gallons (all 75-85 MPH freeway cruising).

I have NO complaints about mileage in my WRX. I don't drive like a granny, either.
