parting out: my semi tuned 1997 Suby Impreza L
I can't believe it. It's actually gone
Last Saturday night, June 25th, 2005, the worst happened. I was following a friend in his Subaru (one year newer than mine), too fast down a windey ("wyndy") road at about 10:30 PM, going to see my girlfriend. We were going around a blind turn when a deer started running. He missed the deer, and so did I. Unfortunatly it was because I flew into the oncoming lane. Well with that lane, around the turn came a two vehicles. I couldnt go back into my lane due to Mike's Suby, so the only way was off the left side of the road. That of course meant up the bank. Keep in mind, I'm still bookin' it. I made it about 50 feet along the bank with my left tires on the white line when it suddenly got worse. I hit a rock about the size of the stove in your kitchen. *silence* And the car went up. It scraped the passenger side fender, rolled over in the air to the drivers side, then slammed down hard on the roof and carbon fiber hood, sliding about 50 feet into the middle of the road. traffic, thankfully, stopped. And my Subaru stopped. My passenger asked if i was alright (I took the worst of it), then we let ourselves down from the seats, yadda yadda yadda (Ill make a separate post of the accident at a later date which i'll edit in) and we were fine. Well i had the imprint of the steering wheel on my head (i still have a large bruise) and one hell of a whiplash. Ray (my passenger) was fine. The force of me hitting the rock (at about 60 mph) basically snapped the control arm, and snapped the wheel halfway around the inner circumference of the rim(!) with about 1/4-1/2 ledge sticking up. the roof is caved in. i had 2 inches above my head and in front of my face, and I'm only 5'8 and drive with the seat far back. Anyways, the rest of the story will be at the other post. For now, here's the stats: 1997 Subaru Impreza L sedan, EJ22, slushbox, AWD, 47a black exterior with a tan interior(black carpet). 112,000 miles on the car at time of the wreck. mods, new parts, etc: carbon fiber hood (now smashed) KYB GR2 struts (one possibly ruined, but i can replace under the lifetime warranty) (advance auto parts) CCT front halfshafts (also under lifetime warranty through Autozone, bought with my employee discount) American Racing Estrella's (all ruined in one way or another) 2 Cooper Touring tires, stock size (onto 15's), holding air with decent tread 1 Kuhmo Touring tire, also stock size, holding air with almost new tread (2 months old) unknown lowering springs (waiting to be replaced with Eibach ProKit received as a graduation present) Megan Racing front and rear strut tower braces 1 week old custom fabricated catback exhaust (professionally done, 2 1/4 pipe, 7gauge, with a carbon fiber wrapped muffler) Sylvania Silverstars (both still work) new master cylinder the transmission was just serviced. (4 spd auto) the engine ran fine, even when the car was upside down (until i turned the key) the rear doors, rear glass, trunk, and most interior pieces are untouched from the accident basically everything mechanical is fine. the car is a mess though, and unfixable due to the caved in roof on the drivers side. basically, the whole car is available to part out. While it hurts to see my baby go like this, I need to get a new vehicle, then to pay back that debt before college in the fall (wish me luck) what i mean is that I'll sell something as simple as a random screw to something like the whole interior. I need the money badly. The car is in my best friends front yard at this time, I will pull most of the parts (except, say, the engine or something that large), but I would prefer if the buyer would be able to pick it up (i'm willing to meet) as opposed to mailing. I have receipts for most of the parts, and will give the warranty information to the applicable parts. The car was raced in one Solo 2 (did extremely well considering that at the time i had blown struts), and we had planned for another this Sunday. Please email me if anyone is interested: [email protected] , and we can go from there. thank you -Shaun Witmer Pine Grove, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania *edit: pic: notice how low the roof is^^^

the struts are still available. they were installed in May and have not even 5k miles on them. i paid $296 new for them, with a lifetime warranty
if you're interested, pm me and let me know how much you'd give for them. i was hoping for 200, as they are basically new, and have received a few pm's about them, but so far they're not sold. |

here's something i dont get. that hood is carbon fiber (over fiberglass) yet it just flexed out of the way. i thought they were supposed to break with that much weight on it? i walked across it (putting a tarp on the car) and it just flexed inwards, but popped back out. no cracks, nothing. just alot of gouges.

No offense. Lesson to be learned. NEVER swerve to avoid a deer (or other animal). You'd have been better off braking (depending on traffic behind you)and/or hitting the deer!

i have someone already interested in the grille, but thats w/o the lights and the grile emblem.
those lights are from Pilot. they're foglights. i have them wired up to the parking lights because i hate driving with my highbeams and not being to see something right in front of the car. and my stock foglights' housing got crudded up and didnt work. and i thought it looked cool. those lights are held in, believe it or not, by really strong zipties. and they didnt bounce or move. i didnt want to drill holes into anything in case it looked like arse. ghetto? unfortunatly. but it worked. they have Sylvania Silverstars in them also. i case you havent noticed, i like the silverstars. you can find those foglights at your local Autozone(i work at one) |
