In the background CNN just played an excerpt from a 911 call toward the Lake George boat sinking episode.
There is some crazy screeching lady on the phone unintelligibl requesting that someone come help the people that she's watching go down witht he boat. As a hint people, calm the heck down. Atleast to a level where you are understandable to the operator. Also 911 isn't instant results like they'll come to your location through the phone Matrix style. Give your full nme, phone number, location as best as you know it and explain the specific emergency succintly. I'd be pissed for dying because some buckethead couldn't take a moment to breathe and inform the auhorities so they could get to me & mine in time to be useful. - Janq

When it comes down to it... when the feces hits the fan... most people lose it.

People with OnStar get priority emergency help from 911.
At least that's what the commercials lead you to believe. |

You shouldn't rely on 911, and should always be ready to perform first aid and small scale reconstructive surgery on all of your immediate acquaintances in the event of an injury. </dickmoontz> |

I've called 911 many times.
Usually it takes them a long time to answer. ![]() But I always give a precise location and tell them what emergency services we need, then describe the situation. |

Operator: Sir, what's wrong with your friend? Rogue: He was dryhumping a lightsaber and impaled himself. I thought he was trying to be upscale so I go "Rofflecopter!" and he's like "oontz oontz" and I think he's really hurt. Operator: Sir, I don't understand what you just said Rogue: Going Limp! |

Funny story, in hindsight. In June BabyJanq went running through our house at the main entrance hall and tripped hitting her head square mid fall against the edge of a pocket door. Screams, white eye roll back, and Mrs. Janq flipping out ensued. 3 minutes later I have everyone packed in the truck with a bunch of towels and I roll out SWAT style driving with purpose and care to the emergency room which is normally a 30 minute drive away. As were travelling and I'm honking my horn (flashers on) travelling through four towns to get there I ring 911 on my cell and talk with the operator via handsfree... Operator: Hello. This is 911 what is your emergency? Me: My name is Henry <Full Name> and my daughter has busted her head open. She's 2 yrs. old and the damage is high toward the side of her head at the temple. Operator: Sir. Is she awake? Me: Yes. She's awake and crying. Operator: Sir where do you live? Me: I live at <Home address>. But right now I'm in my car travelling toward the hosptial. I'd like to request a police escort please. Operator: Sir where are you right now? Me: I'm driving up over the median and across the front yard at the Mr. Donut in Hadley. Operator: <Silence> Could you repeat that sir?... ![]() In the end town police from three towns were called and on the look out for me as I gave my location and turns to the operator as we travelled. But I was moving through traffic so quickly that they couldn't catch up to me to intersect. I pulled into the hospital, dropped them off and went to move the truck out of the emergency drop off lane when a Florence town cruiser pulled in saw me and I waved them off. The next day Mrs. Janq gave me crap about driving while talking on the cell and speeding. I made it to the hospital inside of 15 minutes through traffic and in a region known for having cops everywhere ready to write a ticket I came across not one when I'd have been happy to see them. - Janq |

When you call 911 in Los Angeles, you get a busy signal.
