Default WC Lathe Werks - Hand turned 5MT knobs

We here at TiC are happy to put up the first for sale thread for WC Lathe Werks' new hand turned shift knobs. In fact, we just got ours today for Tony's car, and I really gotta say it is BEAUTIFUL. I'm dead serious. You guys would not believe how nice a part Chris has made by hand. In fact, I'm thinking of keeping it to myself so Tony can't have it.

Anyway, for those of you who don't know WC Lathe Werks is our first partner for the TiC CGCI program. The purpose of this program is to highlight great parts, made by enthusiasts within the community for other enthusiasts within the community.

Here's what Chris currently has in stock:

Knurled Tapered Piston Style - $80
http://turninconcepts.com/product_in...roducts_id=198

Short Large Ball Style - $100
http://turninconcepts.com/product_in...roducts_id=199

Tapered Piston Style - $70
http://turninconcepts.com/product_in...roducts_id=197

Not yet - Chris and I were talking about 6MT knobs yesterday, and he's going to try something out this weekend.

STi 6-speed Shift Knob Line:

STi Piston Knob:
I completed the first aluminum STi 6-speed shift knob which will screw directly onto the shift lever in place of the stock piece. This may be the first piston-style for the STi in the world? It has a recess in the underside which is wide and deep enough to allow the reverse lockout ring to slide up into it (same dimensions as stock). It is internally threaded 1" deep with the STi 12x1.25 tap.

Dimensions are:
Height: 2.0"
Diameter: 1.5" on top, 1.2" on bottom
Weight: Approx same as stock, will take gram measurement tomorrow.
I test-drove it on my WRX for a couple minutes and it feels just right. Not balky, not too light, good size, easy to grip, good weight. I can make a different design, but I felt like doing this for the 1st ever Piston knob for the STi

STi Sphere Knob:

This knob also screws directly onto the shift lever. It is finished in dull satin / brushed aluminum.
Dimensions:
Diameter: 1.9"
Weight: 132 grams

update 2/7/07:

Acetal Copolymer is the new material I have been using to produce shift knobs. Its a very hard plastic which was invented by DuPont as the lightweight replacement for steel. It is strong, durable, somewhat scratch/dent resistent and has great heat characteristics. It wont get hot or cold like metal ones, it remains within a moderate temperature range similar to your steering wheel.

Its lighter, but this only aids in providing more feedback to the driver. I noticed a better connection with the shifting using one of these over aluminum ones. Perhaps being lighter it doesn't damped the feedback like the heavier metal knobs do.

All in all, its a great material and its proving to be loved by each person that gets one.

5mt spherical knob added to the inventory. Read some of the reviews that are coming back on these. Everyone who has picked one up has been impressed.

I'd like to get something that resembles the STi Sphere knob for my wrx, and by this I mean the way that the shift boot isn't stuffed into/under the knob. Any recommendations?
