Both Pharmco and Lowball - either of you guys know what your AFR's REALLY are? (using a wideband) Remember, this thing could be telling the truth that you're running lean.

Other than to try the numerous options above I don't have much advice for either of you

What is really weird is that I have normal EGTs. About 1300F at cruise. Once I go on boost I can't really sustain 1400F EGT because the car really starts to buck after about 5 seconds over 8psi. I really hate to start replacing parts without knowing what is wrong but I guess I'll buy another front 02.

I wouldn't start replacing parts either - you have another problem that I don't think is related to your front o2 sensor being bad. Are you SURE the only CEL you're getting is P0171? If you're getting bucking above 8psi it sounds like you're hitting a fuel cut for some reason. Could be a tuning issue, could be a loose hose, could be something entirely unrelated to all the stuff in this thread.

My advice: don't buy the o2 and don't start throwing parts at. Start a new thread in the appropriate forum - make sure to list ALL of your mods (relevant or otherwise) any recent work done on the car up until the point where things started to go wrong, all the symptons you can think of and all the steps you've taken thus far to try to remedy it. Shoot me a PM with the link and I'll help you bump it up and throw my 2c in it- I may not be of much help, but others on here know volumes more than I do about general troubleshooting.

Just sharing my problem.
I installed a aps dr 725 fmic and aps cai on a cobb stage 2.5 car(I have access tuner)
Started the car following installation and it ran like *****. Well I figured I had a leak so I checked everything. Started the car still idled like *****!. I figured I am missing something somewhere and it is very hard the hear for leaks so I used a pump to the pressurise the system. No Leaks??? Took the car for a short cruise around the area and it also bucked coming on boost and badly when in 5th building boost, threw a code PO171. Took it home and scratched my head for a few days. I then recalled some issues I had when my aem was on the car. So I hooked up the stock airbox with it sitting on the ic piping. Started the car and it idled perfect! I pulled the cai (to be reinstalled on vacation in a few weeks so I can tune the car) and siliconed the air filter to the top of the stock airbox and hooked it up(the whole box won't fit). Took the car for a spin and it ran like a scalded dog. It seems the issue was a poorly placed maf sensor in the aftermarket cai. I am very disappointed in aps as their products are very $$$ and I would think they would do thier homework.

I have had the p0171 for a while now, it only seems to come on (after I unhook the batt.) during normal driving or on cruise control. Sometimes it comes on right away sometimes after 180 miles. I have no intake mods (minus removing the resonator) and I am only 1.5 psi over stock boost. My injectors might be dirty, if they are I are considering just upgrading them to STI injectors, but if I do that with a stock ecu what kind of problem will I run into?

My Tuner, along with ecutek and power enterprise got mine all sorted out. Seems that with ecutek and the PE injectors (don't know about others) that you have to actually put in a smaller number of cc in the injector table than what the injectors state (i.e. PE650 = 600cc or some # other than 650). I don't know all the details, I'm sure that can't be the only thing that was adjusted, but I'm not getting the code anymore.

So again, after talking with ecutek and PE they adjusted some settings and got rid of the code. I drove it around for a couple of weeks and no code. So I went back in for a re-tune to push it just a bit more and now have a max of 271whp and torque of 250.

My current AF are Min 11.1, Max 12.7 and Avg 11.8

This was just last week and on a MD Dyno.

If you need any additional info let me know and I'll get it.

Can't really run STi injectors with the stock ECU without getting some sort of engine management whether it be ECUTEK, Cobb, UTEC, etc. I'm not saying I know the answer to your problem, but bear in mind PAWRX's solution ended up being the front o2 sensor. Read through the list and try to check as much stuff as you can, or find a buddy who can help you, or take it to the dealership if it concerns you.

If for some reason you take your MAF out, check the integrity of the O-ring. A damaged/missing O-ring can cause a P0171 CEL.

I just got this today (a wednesday) after installing an
APS TMIC on Sat. I've driven at least 200 miles before it came on. I reset the ecu and have driven >50 miles and it hasn't come back. After reading this thread I tried to do a quick check of any hoses that I might have touched and didn't notice anything loose. I got a little confused while reading the part about hoses around the IC. What should I be looking for? Would the hoses from or to the turbo cause this?

Default I found the problem

I guess I was right to be worried about the bracket hitting the brake booster vac hose. After the light returned today I took another look under the hood with the car on and I could hear the air leaking. The bracket had cut a large hole in the hose. I'm surprised that my braking was not affected, but I think I tore the hole open more when I was pushing down on the hose trying to test it.

Noice! Read your thread- the simple answer was, "You had a leak" but as you rightly point out, it can be like finding a needle in a haystack! Troubleshooting is a skill that seems to have been LONG forgotten in the age of instant fixes and "it's broken, so just replace it instead of trying to fix it."

Nice work and nice catch. Sometimes all it takes is another pair of eyes or 24 hours of NOT looking at it in order for it to jump right out at ya.

Thank God for this thread. Thanks so much guys. Short story, I had a power steering leak and my car sat for 2 months. I just recently replaced the steering lines and pump, reconnected everything and it seemed fine. Then the check engine light came on. I didn't have access to a reader so I paid the $97.50 to take it to a shop. Found out it was this code and my MAF had a wrong size screw in it allowing unmetered air in. Code cleared and away I go.

That was Saturday. On my way to work this morning, the check engine light came on again. Not wanting to risk it something more severe, a 110+ mile round trip didn't look to appealling, I turned around and went home. Looked around and figured it must be the same code. Check my air filter and it had dried powersteering fluid on it. So I changed that, cleaned my MAF, and check my vacuum lines around the powersteering pump and found a line not fully connected. So tomorrow I'll try again. If it does comes up again, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be the O2 sensor, considering I have 101,xxx miles and the powersteering fluid leak was right over top of the sensor.

Here's what happened to me. Anyone who can offer some help, it's much appreciated.

I started fooling around with anti-lag through openecu tools. Lots of pops and bangs.

Then, I get a CEL. Code said some missfires and whatnot (expected) and I also got the P0171 lean conndition. I then immediately deactived the ALS map and I cleared the codes. Now I only have P0037 (rear O2 sensor). The car seems to work fine other than it's a little lumpy at idle.

Oh BTW, I am catless. In Enginuity, I also have the P0037 CEL box UNCHECKED but for some reason I am still getting that code... front O2 sensor gone perhaps? If so, why would I be getting the rear O2 code?

Any suggestions?

Thanks, JC

i have this code
Fp green
Decaps
front mount
HKS pod filter system
Ecutek
Ej207

Code came on after i ported my headers and installed SARD injectors. I was also getting misfore codes with the SARDs. I now run decaps - idle is alot better but the code has not gone away.
I also run no cats.
When driving - anything after 3000rpm - the car rally struggles for power. It feels like major fuel surge.
Also - my bov does not vent properly. Its the stock wrx bov, and all it does is flutter, it only opens up at full boost..

any suggestions?

Bumping an old thread.... I just popped this code yesterday. After reading this thread, I found that the airbox wasnt sealed. I reset the computer, and that's the last I saw of it.

Thanks for the help!

Good news for you then! I threw this code a few months ago, but my culprit was found out to be the tune. Got retuned, changed the downpipe after, and am now throwing this code again

I will check my airbox and the simple things, otherwise a new O2 will be in my future.

I had the same problem for a while, it would come on every 80 miles or so, especially if I was cruising around in vacuum a lot.

Turns out that one of my catch can lines was not FULLY tightened. By visual inspection it looked like it was sealed tight, but it was only in a fit of despair and rage while I was untightening and retightening everything did I notice it was not 100% tight.

Moral of the story is, even though a Pre-turbo hose may LOOK like it is nicely sealed, it may be pulling in just enough air to make the CEL go off under vacuum.

Hope this helps.
