If you're running a winter set and a summer set of wheels or you have a monster hookup, i'd just paint 'em. It cost me right around $40 for all 4 wheels. If you only have the stock set, then yeah, i'd probably go to a pro also.
I am currently housing 3 sets

Stock 17's with daily driver re92's
Rota Subzero with Azenis 215 for autoX (225/45/17)
SE E3's with Pirelli Winter Carving

so once the winters go on I will be free to take as much time as I want. and I will probably have the RE's dismounted since they are fairly done

In my opinion, those look better than your previous summer wheels. Love them.

i did same thing to my stockers last fall when i was preparing them for the winter. Actually you didn't havet to put the primer on. Just sand them down lightly with the sand paper to expose the factory primer. Then i put about 2 coats of gold and about 7 clear coats. I only painted the outside of the rims and i used 1 can of Gold + 2 cans of clear coat.
Wheels held up pretty amazing during the winter with all of the salt and getting the snow off of them with the scrubber many times. The srping inspection revealed only a few small rock chips.

so just to follow up a little bit on this...

The paint did harden after some time. I checked yesterday and it wasn't soft like it was when I first did this. I took them off because I picked up some new wheels and wanted to throw those on while we were still warm out here in the northwest. anyhow, looks like a lot of paint came off underneath the lug nuts, but i guess that's to be expected.

Other than that, still looks good. Haven't had to deal with any sand or anything like that yet.

thanks for comments. The other wheels really do look good when they're nice and clean.

I did, however, just sell them last weekend.

Like I mentioned before, these are winter wheels, so no biggie. I'll just repaint that section if need be. thanks for the comment though. The tires are still in good shape that they should last through most of next winter.

Looks like you did a good job StealfishWRX. Is that gold? On my screen it looks bronzish.

thedon - pics and link added

I'm thinking of doing this on my ADR M-Sports. Its a mesh style wheel so there are going to be some hard parts to get to and scuff. Off to the search button I go for gold wheels.

Sorry, didn't realize a question was asked back in February. I got the paint from Shucks Auto Supply. Don't know if you guys have that where you live or not. Autozone would probably have it also.

go for a flat black that would look tight depends what rims tho...i think the thinner the spokes are the more glossy they should be lol
