I need to get the Strut Clunk on my 06 looked at, as well as an obnoxious rattle in the rear somewhere fixed. I live in Ogden, but I haven't really heard anything about Subaru of Ogden, so I'm willing to drive to SLC for better work.
Also, do you think any of the local dealerships will care that I have strut tower bars attached to the struts? Or will they give me crap because the rear struts will probably be replaced?

Subaru of Ogden is a bunch of morons, in my experience. It may have changed in the last few years, but I doubt it. I took my car to Nate Wade when I was having headgasket problems, and they had a great service department, even though they didn't fix the eventual problem.
I had no problems with strut bars, Cobb CAI, Borlas, etc on my experience with Nate Wade. If you want non-warranty work done, A&C in Murray, near Modern Garage, is the best place I know of. |

I was thinking of calling Nate Wade. LHM was giving me **** about getting me a rental. I live around Ogden, and I'm not willing to take a day off to sit and wait for them to determine what some of the problems are. They won't give me a rental until they can determin that the car will be more than 1 day.

I have had Both of my Rear struts replaced on warranty. The funnay part is I knew what was wrong. Called up the boys at Nate, and told them I needed new rearstruts. That I would be waiting for car. I show up, ask if I needed a ride somewhere.
Told the no I was going to wait. As per my phone call. They have me wait in the customer area.*They do have a sweet old subbie in side, gotta love the classics. * I was just sitting there for ohh 20 mins when the service writer comes in and says "Well looks like you need a new strut. We do not have those in stock. You will need to come back in when we get the part." I was beyond and I was so freaking pissed off. I looked at the service guy and said. "I called becuse of this problem. I was told np, we can fix it. Now you are telling me that I wasted my morning by driveing in at 8:00 am so you can tell me what I already knew, and that you do not have the part needed to fix my car??" I was just so angry and at the same time could not belive what had just happened. So I took my keys and waited for them to call and let me know when my part would get in. Took 2 weeks for the part. Another for an opening for them to do the work. In the mean time the other one was going. I let them know this as well. At least on the other one they guy told me. Ok. We will order the other one in as well but still had to go back later and have it done. /rant C N: I too needed my rear struts done and went through a buch of bull to get it done. |

Also it only took them about 1.5 to 2 hours to do the whole job. With alignment.

I think a dealers a dealer, there going to tell you anything just for you to bring your car by. If you know what the problem is, stick to that don't let them pull you around tellin you everything else you need to buy, but than again if it's warranty work, I think the car rentals are free so either get the rental or tell em to call ya when the part comes in.. Try to find a service writer that knows what there talking about, it makes it 10x easier.. I've heard good and bad about every dealership in the valley..
And as far as an alignment, after taking mine to Vals they said how it was when I brought it in the dealership woulda left it on the lift for 2 hrs and charged me I ever so needed left arm.. there great for warranty deals but anything else,, blahhh |

If i had my preference i'd take to Nate Wade every time. They are very pro and i always get a good vibe from them and they do solid work. But i'd taken my WRX to the Ogden dealer for warranty work and other work periodicatlly, have also taken my RS them a handful of times. The Ogden shop seems a little ghetto and the salesmen maybe seem a little shady, but their shop guys have always done me right. I wouldn't feel bad about taking it there, they do good work and are straight dudes. I live in SLC but still work in Ogden so that's where i end up most of the time.

No one beats Nate Wade. Mark Miller is very touchy about aftermarket stuff and refused to even look at my car because I have a catless downpipe. The guy who works at NW with all the frogs on his desk is excellent, he'll get you hooked up. While you wait you can go inside and look at the old subaru van !

I'd definatly go with Nate Wade, all around good experience there, and van ftw too. Got my first car at mark miller, had the hardest time getting the most basic warranty work done correctly(gas tank lid wouldn't open sometimes, took it in, then it stopped opening even more frequently then they said they'd take another look at it and said nothin was wrong and on the ride home I went to fill up and, of course it didn't open.)

Just came back from Doug Smith to get my 02 WRX fixed before making a 1200 mile trip home for summer. For a while now, the car has pulled insanely hard to the right to the point where I can't let go of the wheel or I'll slam into other cars. Also, when boosting at higher RPM's, there's a loud screaming that coincides with the RPM's till it starts sputtering. During this, I lose an immense amount of power to the point that it feels like I've hit a brick wall and can't accelerate any faster. From what I've read, this indicates a pre-turbo exhaust leak. These two things are so obvious that a retarded homeless person could easily point them out even if he'd never been in a car before in his life.
Well, in addition to waiting for a shuttle service to take me back to Provo for 3 hours (which never came for me), the rep comes back to me and tells me that they didn't find anything wrong. I had to ask him to repeat himself because I was so stunned. Of course, I signed a paper agreeing to pay 85 dollars for an assessment fee that would be waved if they found anything significant to work on. I signed it, thinking that there's now way the mechanics could be that stupid or lazy that they wouldn't find anything. I guess I was wrong. Well, I asked the rep if he was sure and he said he was but that he'd make sure one last time. He came back with the news that nothing had changed, handed me my keys and directed me to the counter to pay the 90 bucks (with tax) for wasting my whole day and making me miss the last class of the semester which was fairly important to go to. Still pretty stunned, I got in the car and took off. Well, I hadn't even gotten on the highway when I realized that there was NO way I could let that stand. I accelerated again to make sure the boost was still sputtering and I let go to make sure it was still pulling. They were. So I turned around and went back. Well, since the person who worked on my car was at lunch, I talked to the head guy and he took it out. 15 minutes later he comes back and it's the same story. It was clear to me that they didn't want to work on it, and honestly I didn't want my car to be at their mercy when they hated my guts. End of story, NEVER go to Doug Smith for repairs. Hell, I won't ever go there for anything, except maybe to talk to the owner about the events that have transpired. |

Solid Autoworks or A&C Automotive are both places I'd highly recommend.

+1 for Solid Autoworks! Just had my APS turbo inlet installed there and they are very professional and Noah even stayed late to get it done to get my car on the road again. I highly recommend them. If you want a dealer, I suggest Nate Wade.

LHM in Sandy has been excellent to me. I didn't buy my STI there, but they have been the only ones to work on it, because Mark Miller gave me the run around.
When I first bought my car it had problems... 3rd and 4th Gear both needed replaced, the rear struts were shot, all of the synchro sets in the tranny were garbage...my rear endlinks were bent. They took it in, and although they didn't have all of the parts in stock they got them ordered and installed fairly quickly. They didn't even question that it was warranty work...even though it was probably from the previous owner beating the car to hell. They even replaced my Brake Pads while it was in there. They gave me a rental car from enterprise which is next door to the dealership...They even gave me a Jeep as a rental, which made the Deer Hunt that much better. I have only good to speak of them, and will return if I ever have a problem. I have not dealt with any of the dealerships around here to find out which ones are MOD Friendly...but when the time comes I would try them first. My '04 STI was stock when I had the work done...but it isn't now. |
