I would imagine as previous track days that first dibs go to Subies and spot fillers would be other cars...

Spectators are allowed AFAIK. The reason they are on weekdays is becuase that is when the track is available. Take a day off MAN!

I'd really like to hit one of these days up. Is there a list anywhere of what the top few things to do for "track preparation" would be? I would think obviously brake pads, fluid, check oil etc. anything anyone runs into as issues though as far as wear and tear or what to do to make the most of the day?

You'll do better then me...with stock lines and stock fluids....

Your pads might eat up your rotors but the main concern is the fluids boiling or the lines flexing too much.

Haha, "Guru-ness" doesn't equal long brake life!

My rotors are already at the "I might need to change these soon" stage from auto-x...a track day will KILL them completely for sure! I'm also wondering how HPS pads will hold up.

let me help you guys out..

you don't have to do anything to your car.. seriously.. especially if you are a rookie.. a stock car will do just fine (except maybe stock re92).. the goal is to learn how to drive your car.. =) just make sure you have some fresh oil in your engine..

but if you HAVE to do some mod, i would suggest tires first.. if you have money, go for R-compounds.. if you are tight on budget, grab some summer tires.. second would be some shocks/springs combo or coilovers.. then brakes (pads, lines, fluid)..

imo, you can always try to brake earlier.. hence the need for serious brake upgrade would not be necessary for starter..

if you have to worry about insurance, maybe you should think twice.. if you want to go out there and push the limit and expect ppl to cover your ass when you crash your car, you are nuts.. lol.. so either take it easy and have fun or pay to play..

You toasted your brakes at an autoX? Did you drive there with one foot on the brake and one on the gas? How can you possibly toast anything at an autoX????? (except for tires at BB). You are racing for like 5 min total over the etire day?

Your setup will rock the track. I only had RS brakes, ss lines, 50$ lordco pads and FORD Dot4 in my rally car and I could ride those brakes all day long down the sides of mountains - for 1000s of KM.

Anyway, make them fade. Boil the fluid. Left foot brake the crap out of them. Then you don't have to speculate about what happens when. You'll know.

hey, I'm required to buy insurance to place my computers on a rack in a datacenter... I figured perhaps the organisers of the event might require additional insurance or something before letting people throw their cars around the track.. I was kinda letting onto the fact that I don't know anything by asking the question.

I also wasn't asking if I need to modify my car, I was asking if I need to pickup any other specific equipment. I see videos on youtube of people wearing full body outfits and all that. What's actually required? If it's nothing major, then I'll probably try and come out, but if I have to spend $2500 on gear, I probably won't...

As I said, I'm a newb.. I was asking for information, not to be talked down to. Then again, what do I expect on teh internets?

All event insurance is taken care of and you don't need to buy anything extra.
Driving Unlimited will supply loaner helmets so just make sure you have decent brakes, comfortable shoes and nothing loose in your car and you're ready to go.
Don't worry if you've never done a track day before. The program is geared towards all skill levels.

BTW Great response so far everybody!!!!
Keep those registrations coming to trackday@shaw.ca

It's going to be fun.

I think what he meant was that any damages out of your car is paid for, anything happen to your car you're on your own - seems to be the rules for anything happening on a track, be it AutoX/HPDE/Time Trial/Track Day

lostmind, you might not know that andys is famous for 'stirring the pot' and getting people riled up. Some people and their perverse pleasures...

Geremy, correct me if I am wrong, but the track days I have done with Driving Unlimited ARE actually covered by ICBC since DU has worked the format out to be 'driver training', and has got ICBC to extend coverage. Still, if your finances would be devastated with the loss of the car, you probably should still think twice.

You will wear brake pads; make sure they are in decent shape and the fluid is high temperature capable. I found the Brembos to be more than capable; those with OEM brakes should take extra care to make sure they are in top shape. Tires should be in good shape but you won't wear them a huge amount.

That is correct.

As well, Driving Unlimited does a fantastic "safe driving" program for Canadian Direct Insurance.

andys, I have worn my rotors to the point of needing replacement after 18,000km of daily driving, spirited driving, and auto-x events. Nowhere did I say that I "toasted" them. I said "I might need to change these soon", from all the heat abuse they have taken from my driving style

Registration is going well.

So far we have a bunch of STi's and even a Dodge Magnum SRT.

Don't forget that registration closes 1 week before the track day.
