what kind of gasket does this use to mate with the mid pipe. More specifically will it mate to the stock system with a doughnut type gasket, or is it a flat wafer type gasket?

It is the flat type gasket. The downpipe does not taper, its 3" all the way.

Yah your probably rite. Hopefuly there is somebody out there that doesnt mind spending a little extra for a high quality downpipe. Just to compare Cobbs catted dp new cost over $550.
