So in anchorage.. when they IM your cars, do they hook the exhaust up to a smog machine, or just plug it in to the obd?

I think they only use the sniffer if it is 95 or older, they do a visual check though

take it to jerry at Conti. they are certified. and yes, they will do the sniffer and the visual inspection last time i had my car tagged, and it was an 03.

A friend and I are both looking for a ahem ........... "hook up" on some IM's so if anybody knows how we can avoid putting our cars back to stock PLEASE shoot me a pm.

you guys are not going to get some licensed shop to respond on here. the fines and loss of licenses are just not worth it.

no sniffer...plug to see if cel codes stored, etc...and a slight visual...make sure u have a cat at least...

yep, gotta have one cat with the new regs. and no more sniffer? and stored CEL? i wonder how that works since my AP will turn off some of the CEL's.... ???

the ap turns off P0420, the code that they probably look for. so in that aspect im fine, i can turn off any check engine light i want w/ enginuity.. BUT im 100% catless.. I have a STi catback, with a test pipe where the cat was. When I get my car registered up here, I guess im gonna have to barrow someone's catted cat back hahaha

do you have your stock cbe? when it comes time for me, i'll have to get a stock DP with cats. i gutted mine already.

it should. as long as it's catted. that's why a lot of people will opt for the catted vs catless.

less hassle come IM time.

A tough IM tech could still fail you for the "visual" inspection. I had a Neon a few years ago that I put a header on. The header was CARB legal but the stickers had burned off. Since he saw a "non-factory" exhaust modification, he failed me and wouldn't even hook up the OBD2 port or the sniffer.

wow the sticker burned off on the headers...how could the manufacturer not have seen that coming?

yep, you still gotta pass the visual. slatt was failed at one of the IM centers due to his visual when the guy saw his UP.

Yeah, even the "high-temp" coating burned off, lol. The company said it was guaranteed not to burn off but never answered my e-mails, nor called me back on the matter.
